Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Arlington–Prince George's County metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1754 by Colonel John Herndon and his wife Lady Anna Fairfax as "Henderson" on an tract of land that had been given to them by Lord Fairfax. The name was changed to Herndon in 1865 when it became part of the newly formed Fairfax County. In 1892, Herndon incorporated as a village and remains so today with a total population of 10,000 residents. The Townsquare shopping center is located in the heart of Herndon and features large stores such as Macy's, JCPenney, Sears and KMart alongside smaller stores like Wegmans and Burger King. There are also several restaurants including Five Guys Burgers and Fries (the first store), BJ's Pizza Hut and Dunkin' Donuts which have increased their presence in recent years following the opening of larger malls such as Marshall Fields Mall near McLean Airport, PNC Park inside Dulles Air Force Base (now known as Joint Base Anacostia-McLean) - home to D-backs baseball game - Loudoun Valley Playground for children – now known as Byrd Park - and Ballston Spa & Golf Resort nestled among tall trees on Ballston Road just outside town limits

Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 29,821 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest town in Fairfax County after Arlington and is part of the Washington metropolitan area. The first permanent white settler in Herndon was George Washington, who purchased land from the Rappahannock River Indians in 1785. George Washington's grandson, James Madison, also bought land here and founded Herndon Academy in 1802. The town name comes from a Huguenot family that settled here around 1690 and named their farm "Henderson." In 1814, William Henry Harrison was elected president of the United States and he set about improving roads and bridges connecting his home state of Indiana with Virginia. One of his many goals was to improve transportation to support his growing presidency by building roadbeds through rural areas such as Herndon. On July 4th, 1815, Harrison announced that he would be running for re-election as president on an anti-corruption platform; this led to increased interest in voting within Virginia's politically polarized society. In October 1815, Harrison's Vice President John Tyler took office following the death of Harrison and chose Tyler as his running mate based largely on Tyler's strong military record during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). For three years (1816–1820), Tyler served as governor of Texas while campaigning against annexation by Mexico—a campaign pledge he had made when he became vice president four years earlier. In November 1820 – one day after becoming governor—Tyler was inaugurated as the thirty-seventh president of the United States under James Kepner Walker! As vice president under Walker from March 4th until May 20th 1865 – just two weeks before Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House – Tyler played an important role in carrying out Reconstruction policies throughout American South President Abraham Lincoln appointed Ewell Randolph Secretary at War on April 6th 1865 due to political pressure from within Union Party circles not to nominate General Ulysses S. Grant for nomination to succeed Stanton – but only because Grant had been widely perceived as too weak physically or politically speaking given his recent poor health (Grant had lost both legs belowthe knee after being shot at Bull Run Campaign). After General Robert Ewell becomes Commanding Officer 5th Corps Area Army District 3 on May 12th 1865 we find out more about Randolph’s past including that he may have been responsible for spy operations inside Union lines which caused much dissension within Northern Political circles over whether these operations were legal or not This information leads some historians argue that President Lincoln may have considered giving up Stanton’s position altogether due to internalpressure rather then deal with what they saw as wider problems caused by Randolph
