Also in 1802() General Order No* 10 published by Governor Robert E.* Lee authorized the erection of a military post here typified today by Fort Meade On May 15th 1800 an act entitled "An Act To Establishe A Post And Barracks Herein For The Use Of The Troops employed In ThisWestern Expedition" was passed by both housesofthe General Assembly without objection and approved July 5th following a recommendation from Lieutenant Colonel Edward Henson ..... On October 15th 1800 Major General David Wooster ordered all arms be removed from Campfield and placed inside Fort Meade where they remained until 1861 When Johnston's army overran those holdings leading to their removal development has proceeded slowly since then with few major purchases except for purchasing land adjacent to present day Main Street between Second Avenue Nand Ave NW and First Avenue NE when built housing developments such as Highland Park started growing up around these boundaries
