Fairfax, Virginia is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located within the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. The first people to live in what is now Fairfax were the Rappahannock tribe who lived on the banks of the Potomac River near present-day Dulles Airport. In 1762, George Washington's father General James Harnett purchased land adjacent to modern day Fairfax from the Rappahannock tribe for $2 per acre (valued at $10 million today). The area developed as a rural farming district until after World War II when federal government investment led to suburban development around Dulles Airport and other nearby villages such as Manassas and Arlington Heights. On July 4, 1814, Lt. Colonel John Reid called out 1,500 militia from Alexandria to march against Native Americans living in what is now Fairfax County. A force of 575 men under Lieutenant Colonel Robert Eaddy attacked these Native American warriors numbering about 200 including 20 women and children who had been taken prisoner by the Indians during an ambush nearpresent-day Falls Church; however, no damage was done due to very light skirmishes that took place over short distances with UNC'ers wielding only spears or arrows while many of their opponents fled in terror into cover before dawn. On this date in 1814 British troops landed at Alexandria on horseback commanded by Major General Sir Thomas Gage and scoured all along Buzzards Bay trying unsuccessfully to find any sign of where General Alexander Stephens´ forces had landed ashore just south of Point Pleasant Quarantine Station four days earlier; they found nothing unusual so returned back home without engaging any natives although they did capture some smallpox inoculation supplies which may have helped spread disease among them during this time period

On March 14, 1742, when General Thomas Fairfax moved his family from Alexandria to new home at Westover House near Manassas Junction (now Manchester), he joined forces with Captain Robert Rogers' group during the American Revolution against British rule over North America It was here on April 9th 1775 that Colonel Nathaniel Bacon rallied militia under command of Major-General Charles Lee to repel an attack by British forces led by Lieutenant Governor John Dinwiddie It was also here where General George Washington made history when he assumed commandof Fort McHenry from Major-General Richard Howe on September 11th 1814 In 1871–72 construction began on what would become Fairfax Station/McLean College which opened its doors to students on November 12th 1872 On December 8th 1888 Congress designated part of Arlington Township as honorarily independent District No. 2 within Virginia due to growing events within Virginia such as Reconstruction & Virginias admission into the Union On January 1st 1895 President Grover Cleveland signed Executive Order 13423 making Arlington Township an incorporated village
In 1814, the Potomac River was divided between George Washington and James K. Polk in the Compromise of 1850. The river became a national border in 1792 when Virginia ceded its entire CLA section to Maryland as part of the Treaty of Paris following the French and Indian War.
