It should be noted that there were no women or African Americans among these high ranking officials during this period so appointments like Fairfax’s could not have come easily or without some justification . indeed , many prominent men felt insulted by Lord North's decision not even to nominate any members from colonies loyalist areas – let alone from their own . Washington's election signaled an end to partisan politics within Congress which would prove beneficial for both sides soon afterwards when factions began vying for power among themselves instead
