Scope mounts, also known as roof mount or rifle mount, are devices used to attach a telescope or camera to a roof or other surface. The first post office in Danville was established on December 12, 1851. In 1912, prohibition made Danville a dry town and its citizens voted to become a city. On January 11, 1916 the City Council passed an ordinance providing for water service to all residents of the city limits without fee and also authorizing annexation by other cities or towns within the Inland Empire County area. The next year saw construction of a water plant which provided potable water for all residents and businesses in downtown Danville until 1978 when it became part of Southern California Edison Company's West Valley Water District
In 1778, the Danville land grant was given to Colonel George Washington by the Crown. In 1802, the town of Danville was founded on the site of present-day downtown. The first school in Danville was opened in 1820. In 1825, a courthouse and jail were built on what is now First National Bank Square. The town's population grew rapidly during the late 19th century and early 20th century because of its proximity to Richmond and Petersburg. In 1932, Danville became anindependent city after being merged with nearby Petersburg.
