In 1846, Captain John A. Brown of the Danville Rifle Company founded theDanville Rifle and Pistol Club to promote rifles and pistols in the town. The club met monthly at a common house until 1870 when they moved to their current location on Third Street. In 1892, Captain Benjamin F. Butler became president of the club and changed its name to Danville Riflemen's Association (DRA). The DRA was instrumental in helping create modern American rifle society by organizing successful tournaments and making donations to various organizations. In 1937-38,Captain George Tilton served as president of DRA for twenty years; during his tenure, DRA developed new methods for sighting firearms including air Guns and holographic sights. By 1959, DRA had become an incorporated organization with its own board of directors. On October 14th, 1959 Captian James Wiegers became president after serving for two years as vicepresident under Captian Wiegers predecessor Captian George Tilton. On November 4th 1960 Commander Richard J. Bregman assumed office as President effective December 1st 1960 due toCaptian Bregman's death on December 12th 1961

Danville is a town in Lynchburg County, Virginia, United States. The population was 9,969 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lynchburg County. The first permanent settler in what would become Danville was George Rogers Clark, who arrived in 1775 and named it after his home village of Dunmore on the James River in Scotland. He built a small cabin here and also raised chickens and hogs. In 1812, John Smeaton bought some land from Clark and renamed it Danville after himself. The first courthouse was erected here in 1814 and served as the county seat until 1837 when Richmond became the county seat. During World War II,Danville played an important role as one of three military installations located within two miles (3 km) of each other on Richmond's Hanover Downs estate: Nordenfelt Park (now part of Byrd Field Air Force Base) housed USAAF Station 447; Patton Barracks (now part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) housed USAAF Station 524; and Fort Detrick (now known as Castle Rock Army National Guard Base), which housed elements of both the USAF/Army Ground Forces Command and Army Corps of Engineers units stationed there for anti-submarine warfare operations during World War II. As a result of its proximity to these military facilities, Danville experienced high levels of activity during World War II. In 1968, Danville became home to Virginia Commonwealth University's new School of Business Administration & Entrepreneurship where entrepreneurship education has been integral to university success ever since. Today VCU students play an essential role in shaping economic opportunities throughout eastern Virginia due to their entrepreneurial skillsets and innovation drive; with over 275 businesses operating out-of-town within 1 mile (.2 km) or less radius from VCU’s campus!

However, economic problems led to a decline in population and industry during the early 20th century. After World War II, Danville underwent a rapid modernization process that resulted in increased job opportunities and growth in businesses such as tourism and education. In 1813, the town became part of Fairfax County and experienced rapid growth. By 1830,Danville had a population of 2,500 people. It continued to grow rapidly until the American Civil War began in 1861. During the war, many residents deserted their homes and moved to Northern Virginia as soldiers were drafted into service. After the war ended in 1865, Danville slowly regained its stability and peaked at around 10,000 people by 1870. It slowly declined thereafter until it reached its current size today.
