Danville is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is located on the east bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by Prince William County to the north, Loudoun County to the east, and James City County to the south. The population was 10,715 at the 2010 census. Danville was founded in 1751 as a trading post on what is now called Smiths Falls Road. In 1812, it became part of Alexandria Township. By 1812, Bacontyne had five stores and over one hundred citizens living hereabouts; he also built a sawmill which still operates today. The town grew rapidly due to its location along Potomac River factored into its growth by Captain John Brown who made an investment in land hereabouts in 1792 which he donated to the town for use as farming groundsteads; this led to increased trade through Danville thanks both to Captain Brown's enterprise as well as early settlers' willingness to offer goods at low prices when they could not find equivalents back home or abroad because of tariffs levied by Great Britain at that time! Rice crops were first brought into cultivation around this time but some mills did not start until much later given that transportation costs then were high - even higher than today!
