Danville is a small town in the Commonwealth of Virginia, located within the Danville School District. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Danville is one of two towns in Fairfax County, Virginia that are not part of the Washington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1788 by Captain John Smith on land purchased from the Rappahannock Tribe. The first settler, Samuel Masters, arrived in 1790. By 1802, there were 7 homes and 30 Negroes living in what is now Danville. In 1804-1805, General James Armistead ordered all white males between the ages of 20 and 50 to leave for fear that they would form a slave society under Confederate rule. Many did so and formed a community called "Moses Hall" on High Street near today's Presbyterian Church. In 1811-1812, General Robert Ewell moved his army from Petersburg to Danville to demand supplies from the Alexandria Militia under Governor Vernon Randolph. When he discovered that many of the men had not left with their weapons or horses, he ordered them all arrested and marched back to Petersburg without any punishment or compensation! Ewell's actions earned him an nickname - "the Butcher". Many residents relocated to Alexandria during this time as prices for food increased dramatically due to Embargo Act restrictions placed on American goods coming into Europe by Great Britain and France. Later that year (1812), Captain George Mackenzy organized a detachment of militia known as "The Volunteers" which successfully defended against an attack by 300 British troops led by Major-General Sir Hector Munro at Blackwater Mill outside present day Arlington Cemetery*. After this victory, Mackenzy became known as Patriot King for his role in leading these brave soldiers against overwhelming odds*. In 1814-1815 Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Mifflin organized a company of riflemen known as The Dragoons* which defeated an invading force composed mostly of Irish boys aged 12-17 years old at Battlefields Creek near modern day Herndon.* This event has been cited as one of the most significant military victories ever achieved within Fairfax County!* Mifflin also served as captain for Company G during this time Period†(*). He later became Commandant of 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment (later The Honourable Monmouthshire Regiment)‡†(*). Colonel Mifflin died in 1862 after serving his country with distinction during both world wars**().* Today's economy around Danville revolves around agriculture; especially tobacco production and processing.* In recent years Danville has seen some growth due to its location adjacent to I-495; giving it access to new job opportunities across Greater Washington D.C., including corporations such as Amazon*, Microsoft*, Google*, Facebook*, Apple* etc.—all requiring travel eastward along I-495 each morning while traffic congestion remains a problem throughout much of evening rush hour.* As America continue Bible belt migration southward into more populous states like Texas *(eastern border), California *(western border)• along Interstate 5 we can expect even more jobs available hereabouts if Congress does not reactivate SBA stimulus programs soon!!!

In 1876, John Fenton purchased land near present day Friendship Road and river crossing where he built a farm that would later become known as Friendship Park. After years of hard work by his wife Anna Fenton (1837-1920), Friendship Park became one of the most popular tourist destinations in central Virginia due to its beauty, history and wide variety of attractions including nature trails, swimming pools and tennis courts. In 1923 entrepreneur Harry Chandler founded Arlington businessmen’s club which soon became an essential resource forPEOPLE OF DANVILLE AND ARLINGTON COUNTY MAGAZINE
