Danville is a town in Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. The population was 7,453 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fauquier County. Danville is part of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Statistical Area. Danville grew up around the Daniel Boone National Forest and named after General Nathaniel Danforth who fought in the American Revolution. The first post office in Danville was established on December 25, 1814 by Captain John Sprague with the name "New Market." In 1828, Colonel George Stephenson built a sawmill on Roanoke Creek which became one of the largest outside of London. The town's growth continued with deeds to land being issued for townsite development starting in 1851 and until 1892 when all but two were sold to individual citizens or businesses. In 1850s-60s many students from nearby Fairfax came to study science and engineering at James Burrill's Institute just west of town near Blacksburg; now known as Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). In 1865 General Robert Eichelberger invaded North Carolina during Confederate Lieutenant Governor Edmund Randolph's attempt to secede from Virginia; this event led to Eichelberger fleeing into Maryland where he met President Andrew Johnson who offered him asylum. Eventually extradited back to VA he served 3 years before his release and returned home where he ran for governor in 1870 becoming onlythe second Virginian ever elected as a Ulysses S Grant’s Vice Presidential running mate (the other being Millard Fillmore). He also served as Sheriff of Fauquier County from 1870-72 before dying suddenly at his farm near Danville on October 10th, 1890 at age 72 years old having won re-election that year despite not living long enough for it to be counted as an official victory He was buried beside his wife Alma along with their three children: Hiralynn (1912–2001), Walter Prescott Webb (1920–2009)and Eleanor Mary Webb Harrison (1925–2005). His son Hiralynn later married actor/director Harry Belafonte while her grandson Walter Prescott Webb married actress Beverly Garland

Many important events took place during this time frame too- such as when Daniel Boone set foot on property now known as Main Street in 1792 or when manufacturing began to take off here with production growing for everything from cannons to shoes! Despite all these milestones, however, it wasn’t until 1923 that danvillians officially became part of Virginia! This event happened when General Ernest Harmon petitioned Congress for permission to incorporate danvillians into Virginia – an act which eventually happened two years later! It’s amazing how much progressdanvillians have made since then (and still are making!) and we can only imagine what tomorrow will bring!
