The Culpeper County Museum has a unique collection of scopes dating back to the early 18th century. The museum’s Hunt and Fish Scopes Collection was donated by Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Hunt in 1902. This collection includes several hunt and fish scopes which were used by members of the Culpeper County, Virginia militia during the War for Independence. One of these scopes, a Snider-Kinehart hunting telescope, is housed in the museum’s display case along with other historically significant items from the county history including cannons, pistols, uniforms and more!

The mill produced high-quality paper for products such as newspapers, magazines, announcements and invitations. There are also several museums located within or around Culpeper including: The Manoogian Museum of Fine Arts; White Sands National Monument; and Mount Vernon (the home of George Washington).

Culpeper is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Alexandria-Arlington, D.C.-Maryland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Culpeper is located on the Potomac River and it is bordered by Alexandria to the east, Falls Church to the north, Arlington to the west and Loudoun County to the south. The name "Culpeper" derives from two French words: "culpenir" meaning "to chop wood" and "pepper" meaning "to season". A post office has been in operation at Culpeper since 1792. In 1814 General Robert Eager decided that Culpeper would be his new headquarters for I Corps during America's first war with Great Britain. He named it after General Andrew Jackson who had defeated British forces at New Orleans in 1812. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1607 when they arrived here as part of what is now Prince Edward Island (Canada). In 1792, Captain John Smith discovered saltpeter veins near present-day Culpeper Necklace while exploring this area for potential development as a mining camp known as King's Mountain Saltpeter Mines; later renamed Smithfield because of its connection to Smith's discovery. After several years of development work on land which he purchased from Lord Fenton—the original owner of much of modern day Culpeper—Smith laid out a township on July 1, 1800 within present-day Fairfax County limits following Resolution 477 passed by the Virginia General Assembly on February 14th, 1800 (reflecting then-current boundaries). The Township comprised an area extending along both banks of the Rappahannock River northwestwardly to just south of present day Rosslyn Heights; thence easterly along said riverbank (now Route 715) northeasterly to its mouth at Annandale Creek where it empties into Rappahannock River; and finally westerly along said creek bank downstream from Annandale Dam until reached its source at Catoctin Creek southwest of today's Herndon village limits; thus becoming one sidereal section or lobe off larger Monmouthshire Sidereal Section #2 forming what became Fairfax County." The lands comprisingpresent-day CulpePERAddress were surveyed pursuant thereto by Captain John Smith & Mr Nicholas Myntz aboutyt he year 1700 .........The Townshipwas laid out by Capt John Smith...with lots laying out March 3rd 1800’s bounded Southwesterly by Crookedoak Swamp....Northeast corner thereof lying between Kings Mountain Swamp and Sandy Run brook......... On presentation made before me Sept 25th 1799 George Washington granted 500 acres......On presentation made before me Jan 12th 1800 James Gist granted 100 acres.............
