The first magazine in Culpeper, Virginia was the "Culpeper Rifle and Pistol Club's" (CRPC) Magazines Issue No. 1 which was published on October 11th, 1868. The CRPC was formed to promote rifle and pistols in the town of Culpeper, VA. The club sponsored pistol tournaments and matches from its inception. With the help of Colonel John Fenton who served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the CRPC, the town of Culpeper began to get a better understanding about firearms and how they could be used for self-defense. In 1870, a new magazine building was constructed by Mr. Aiken at 5th and Elm Streets in Culpeper. The Magazines Issue No. 2 printed on November 3rd, 1870 featured an article entitled "How to Loading Your Own Rifle or Pistol." This article explained how to load your rifle or pistol with common ammunition types including shot shells, black powder cartridges and grenades. In 1875, another new magazine building was constructed by Mr. Aiken at 6th Street and Elm Street in Culpeper which became known as "The Arsenal". This magazine continued printing articles on firearm safety until it folded in 1903! Eventually all old magazines were destroyed when advances in technology made paper magazines obsolete within 10 years! Nowadays there are only Internet Archive copies remaining from this period!!!
