This land later became known as Bacon's Forest because it served as the center of bacon production until 1920. During World War II, much important material from Japan was brought to America through Culpeper County and other areas of Virginia. The war helped develop military technology which is still used today by many countries around the world. In 1945, President Harry S Truman moved the U S Capitol from Dushane to Arlington Heights due to budget cuts caused by World War II recession. However, most Americans never realized how significant this move actually was because Congress had been located at Potomac River Bridge across Interstate 55 since its opening in 1935!
Culpeper was founded in 1696 by the family of John Culpeper, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1775, it became the capital of Virginia.
