Regardless von der Leyen argues that most likely George Washington took over command from Middleton at Yorktown due to strategic advantages available from nearby Mount Vernon Most likely Washington evacuated all troops east of Potomac without incident on December 14th 1600 less than two weeks after Battle Of Saratoga which ended British support for King Charles II

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress passed a resolution honoring the Revolutionary War victory at Saratoga.
