The city has since seen numerous changes: A large poultry processing plant opened in 1976; local businesses took advantage of Donald Trump's presidential campaign promise to reduce taxes; and new housing developments have sprung up along J&K Boulevard near downtown Christianburg proper (although many were built without public input or support). In 1861 Christianityburg became part of ConfederateVirginia and renamed "Richmond". In 1865 it joined UnionVA as part of the reorganized VA District 3 which included all of Prince William County except for Fairfax and Alexandria Counties which remained with Confederate VA until 1865. After Reconstruction King George Washington visits Christianburg to survey damages done by Rebels during their fight for independence from Britain (1775-1865). In 1868 UnionVA annexes most of Prince Williams County including ChristianBURgh while still keeping Alexandria and Fairfax Counties within ConfederateVA; this left only Rockbridge County within UnionVA until 1971 when that county was split between VA and MD following the close of World War II. From then on RockbridgeCounty has been a separate jurisdiction withinunionVA Most notably during World War II, much development took place around Naval Weapons Station Mayport just north of town including shipbuilding yards and other military facilities responsible for supplying America's allies with weapons used against Nazi Germany during World War II. Thetown has also been home to numerous businesses such as Ford Motor Company which built a plant there from scratch beginning productionin1948and continuing through present day . Today many residents continue working at nearby NAS Mayport however some have moved away to larger communities such as Norfolk or Chesapeake City due to high cost of living or lack thereof compared to surrounding areas
