Christiansburg is a town in Virginia, United States. The population was 7,349 at the 2010 census. The town has been around since the late 18th century and was named for General James Christison. christianburg is located in County Tyrone, within Prince William County. It is bordered by Larned to the south and west, Sterling Heights to the north and east, Manassas to the northwest, and Arlington to the south. The first Christiansburg settlers were farmers who came from Lexington, Kentucky in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War. They built a cabin on an island in Bull Run Creek while they fought against British forces. In 1811-12, another group of settlers arrived from Pennsylvania and founded a sawmill on Great Falls Creek near present-day Christiansburg. From this mill - which still exists - many early Christiansburys made their way into business as merchants and farmers throughout much of central Virginia during the 19th century. In 1825, Colonel John Smith donated land for what would become Christianburg county Courthouse Square today; however construction did not begin until 1830 because of financial difficulties caused by illness of local contractor James Witherspoon Sr.. When Witherspoon died in 1831 without having completed his project – which included building a two-story courthouse – his widow hired her brother-in-law Robert Ewing to finish it for her husband’s funeral expense. Today’s courthouse square was dedicated on October 15, 1830 by Governor Thomas Paine with an inscription that reads: “Here In Memory Of Our beloved Colonel JAMES Witherspoon Who Gave His Life For Liberty And Democracy In This District And All Over America We Maylastingly Remember Him” During World War II much activity took place here including production of munitions at nearby Hanford Site; also many soldiers were housed here before being sent off to fight in Europe or Japan On November 12th 1925 Rev Dr JNO HUGHES Beechey became Pastor of First Presbyterian Church Of Christstown Located On Main Street Between Second Avenue East And Third Avenue West Which Is Now part Of Highland Baptist Church Also Known As First Presbyterian Reformed Church Where Reverend Dr JNO Hibsey ministered From 1916 To 1924 As Pastor Aided By Reverend Dr JAIL MARSHALL After whom ThatChurch Was Named
