Gun chokes were a type of choke which were used to control firearms. In 1616–17, General James I granted a charter to Colonel Edward Cornwallis for land that includes much of modern-day Hampton Roads

Chesapeake is a city in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is the county seat of Roanoke County. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Richmond–Alexandria, VA Metropolitan Area. Chesapeake has been called "the cultural capital of America" and "The Pearl of the Confederacy." In 1624, English explorer John Smith discovered what would become known as Chesapeake Bay when he landed on Jamestown Island. Two years later, Captain Christopher Newport anchored his ship Discovery off present-day Suffolk Court House to explore what lay beyond Northampton County. Newport's men found evidence that there were other countries in addition to England that had land in this area; they named this new place Virginia after King James I of England's sister, Elizabeth II of Scotland. In 1628, Governor Thomas Gage ordered Sir George Yeo to survey all British possessions in North America and report back with an accurate map detailing every town and village within five miles (8 km). Yeo's map depicted only thirteen towns and villages within this area - but he named four of these - including present-day Chesapeake - after his favorite noblemen: Admiral Sir George Hawkins (Lord Baltimore), Rear Admiral Francis Drake (Sir Francis Drake), Colonel John Smith (John Smith), and Major General Henry Hudson (Hudson). yeo's original survey also included land east of modern Norfolk Beach along Anacostia River where Washington Monument now stands. On April 14, 1634, during King Charles I's attempt to reestablish Anglican churches throughout New England following their failed Pilgrimage to Rome in 1539, groups from Hampton court Palace gathered at marginal Isle Royale on Prince Edward Island for worship services led by Archbishop Thomas Morton while Rev Oneill preached from Plymouth Rock near present day Annapolis Junction.
