On November 15, 1901 President McKinley signed legislation creating Joint Board of Education for Schools within Alexandria School District No 1; this act led to amalgamation (perpetual unification) of all school districts serving parts or all of Loudoun County into one system administered through an Alexandria board (the same body responsible for instruction in Loudoun High School). In 1949–1950 construction began on Interstate 66/Va.'s first freeway eastward from downtown Richmond across Prince Edward Island to Dulles Airport outside Chantilly; I-66 was completed concurrent with VA's initial annexation into D.C.; this event marks also the beginning of suburban growth around Northern Virginia including much development along I-66 corridor between Fairfax and Loudoun Counties as well as interchanges at Ballston Road/I-495 exit #471A & I-495 interchange #2B
