Arlington is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 7,554 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Fairfax County. The history of Arlington dates back to 1735 when it was part of Prince George's County. In 1871, Arlington became an independent municipality and in 1924 it merged with neighboring Centreville to form Arlington Township. The first settlers in what would become Arlington were farmers who arrived from England in the early 1800s. They cleared and planted land and built homes near the Potomac River until they started to experience problems with Native Americans raiding their crops and stealing their livestock. Because of this, some English settlers decided that forming a military force might be a better way to protect themselves from these threats than simply waiting for them to attack them directly. So, in 1821, two men named John Nicholson and James Longacre founded Fort Longacre on lands which now form part of Arlington National Cemetery (now known as Lawnside). This military outpost served as a checkpoint between British America and Indian Territory (present-day Indiana). After two years of construction, Fort Longacre was abandoned because no one wanted to live next door to Indians who were constantly raiding their settlements nearby. In 1824, another group of Englishmen settled down around what would become Crystal City on Fairfax Boulevard just south of present day Arlington Cemetery. These men had been wanting to create a new town since they realized that they couldn’t rely on farming or fishing methods alone to sustain themselves since those resources tended towards being raided by Native Americans or banded together against European newcomers. So they came up with the idea of having roads built so people could move about easily without fear of being raiders or kidnapped by the natives! And so Crystal City was born! However, things didn’t go quite as planned for CrystalCity due mainly because there weren’t any real entrepreneurs out there willing To invest in developing it – other than maybe some developers who were interested in buying property but never got around to building anything because they were too busy elsewhere! Eventually though things stabilized somewhat when somebody found an existing water tower/pump station off Route 1 which functioned like a real store front back then! This gave many people hope that development might finally happen after all these years; however nothing ever really happened except for occasional visitors coming over during weekends or holiday periods when everything was calm outside… until 9/11 happened! Soon after 9/11 occurred bombings began occurring throughout suburban Washington DC resulting in more than 30 deaths etcetera; however interestingly enough not one living person within walking distance of Pentagon Was reported hurt or even knew about any impending explosions happening inside!! Just like every other American citizen whose house sat silently watching TV as planes bombed Baghdad only 5 miles away while we went on vacation… well damnit!. Anyway soon after all these events calmed down people started realizing how valuable it actually was that Section 8 housing units had been set aside specifically for Muslims within walking distance OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!! But again due primarilyto lackadaisicalness on the part Of many residents nobody wantedTo take advantage OF this INDEPENDENCE HISTORY & NOW WE COUNTESS PEOPLE AGAIN STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO OUR FOREIGN BUILDINGS WITH NO NOTICE OR NOTHING TO SHOULDER !!
