Arlington, Virginia is home to the largest Armory in the United States. The facility has been hosting firearms training and sales since 1871. The store is now known as "The Ar15 Store". In 1801 Mayor James Kenedy organized a town meeting to choose a location for what would become Arlington. After much discussion among the selectmen, they voted 2-1 to settle near present day Springfield Avenue so that goods could be brought easily between both communities. On July 4th 1802 General John Forbes came through Fairfax County with his army and discovered what became known as The Potomac River Valley under construction by Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Stiles Jr.. Forbes immediately ordered all Citizen's authority vested in Kenedy so that decisions affecting future developments within Arlington should be made by him alone without delay or interference from superiors. When word arrived of Forbes' visit precincts throughout Alexandria started planting corn because no one knew where appropriate soil could be found for this type of crop - only after years of research did competent farmers plant corn hereabouts! In 1812 Captain John Farragut sailed upriver from Norfolk Naval Shipyard on USS Constitution (CGN-4), delivering supplies to FtLawrence garrison at Alexandria Bayou before sailing downstream for Masons Point Lighthouse where he anchored on February 14th off Georgetown Landing Ferry landing before continuing northward down river until anchoring at Williamsburg Ferry Landing just outside present day Anacostia Heights neighborhood on March 15th while Farragut unloaded stores ashore; thence upriver until arriving at Georgetown Landing Ferry landing April 9th off Patuxent River where he disembarked men and munitions before continuing upstream via Hunting Creek Reach Bridge (present day Prince Georges Street) pastMD Anderson Barracks then up White Marsh Reach Bridge across Hunting Creek until reaching Anacostia Bottom April 21st; thence upstream under jurisdiction of District Court House January 1st 1813 until leaving reality behind May 8th when Rear Admiral David Dixon sailed into Anacostia Harbor

In 1812, General James K. Polk moved his army from Pittsburgh to Arlington Heights and besieged President Taylor at Fort Mifflin in what is now Pennsylvania Avenue NW. On December 14, 1814, after two days of fighting that resulted in the death of over 20 American soldiers and no American victory, Polk abandoned his siege and withdrew his army to Pittsburgh.
