Here is a brief history of gun magazines in Alexandria, Virginia: The first gun magazine was established in 1785 by George Washington as a way to keep track of his firearms. At that time, rifles were still used primarily for hunting animals and there wasn’t much need for handguns. However, over time, handguns became more common and so the need for guns grew too. In 1836, Alexandria residents formed the Alexandria Rifle Club to help support the rapidly growing population. The club had two goals: to promote shooting sports and to provide storage space for firearms. The first issue of their new magazine was published on July 1st, 1836. It featured articles on rifle shooting as well as recipes for apple sauce and chicken-fried steak. In 1851, the society started selling arms directly from their armory rather than through subscription clubs like they did before. This change allowed them to sell more pistols than rifles because pistols could be sold immediately instead of waiting months or years for someone else to order them from Europe or Asia Minor (now Turkey). This also caused them some financial difficulties because customers were now buying weapons instead of subscriptions which made it harder to maintain an inventory and make moneyoff of sales potential! In 1865, they changed their name again – this time it was called the Alexandria Armory & Gunsmiths Society – due to increasing competition from other societies who had similar names but offered nothing resembling what the Armstrong Society offered! In 1898, military censorship stopped newspapers from publishing photos taken inside artillery batteries during wartime which would have shown people using guns openly without fear of reprisal from government officials/enemies etcetera etcetera. As a result of this banhammering by our national government at that point in history all gun writers/photographers had either left town or retired at an early age! So essentially any photographer who might want access to old pictures must go seeking permission from one or more members of staff at least once every 10 years just so they can reprint something 🙂 Which brings us up against another limitation on our hobby – how often do we actually get permission? 😉 Anyway back onto topic….. In 1916–1917 several attempts were made by WWI veterans (primarily American) living in England see if they could import assault rifles into Great Britain under license (unfortunately not successful). Afterward these veterans turned their attention towards creating their own version of what eventually became known as “gun mags” which began appearing intermittently throughout Great Britain starting around 1918-1920 only returning home sporadically thereafter until finally disappearing completely after World War II…………………. Alexandria, Virginia is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It was first settled in 1749 by English colonists as part of the colony of Newport News. The town was renamed Alexandria after the Alexandrian Greeks who helped found and settle the colony. The town was originally built on land that now forms the eastern edge of modern-day Alexandria. The original settlers were farmers and their families who raised corn, beans, chickens, cows and pigs. In 1824, Alexandria passed an ordinance to prohibit slave trade in the town.
