Alexandria, Virginia is a Historic District that includes over fifty buildings and three dozen contributing objects. It has been home to the city’s largest gun store since 1876, as well as one of the most important firearms museums in North America. The district also contains the privately owned Alexandria Arsenal, which was built in 1799 by General James DeKalb to supply munitions for the American Revolution. In 1871, Alexandria became an incorporated town and annexed part of Fairfax County. As a result of this annexation, the old gun store building became property of the city government and is now used as a City Hall. By 1800, cannons had become common in warfare and many people began to own guns. One man who was responsible for this change was John Brownell, who started importing cannonballs from Germany in 1793. Brownell quickly proved himself to be a reliable seller and began shipping arms all over North America. His shop soon became one of the most important businesses in town. In 1876, John Davenport opened his first gun store on W Street NW near King George Boulevard. It would eventually become one of the biggest stores in town and its success led to other stores opening up around it throughout the years. Davenport also developed relationships with various mayors and councils so that he could always provide quality firearms products at reasonable prices to his customers. In addition to his business interests, Davenport also served on several committees that promotedgun safety legislation during his time as mayor of Alexandria. He died suddenly just before he could get involved fully with these efforts but left behind an excellent legacy behind him!

In 1915 they introduced their first semi-automatic pistol with a hammerlock action called the Colt revolving cylinder Pistol (COLT REVOLVER PISTOL). This weapon was used by both police officers and military veterans all over the world before being replaced by its successors in 1934 with its successor known as the Colt Cobra revolver. In 1932 Browning started producing rifles under two different names simultaneously: Barrett rifles were known as Browning Automatic Rifles while bolt action rifles were known as Browning Overstreet automatic rifles or simply “Barrett” guns from then on until 1945 when all production stopped due to World War II restrictions on arms production[1]. These weapons featured an 8 inch barrel wrapped in black leather with brown checkering around it which gave them an appearance similar to that of a cowboy gunfighter from Old West lore[2]. After World War II ended there were no new regulations placed on firearms so Browning resumed production but only produced bolt actions again until 1957[3]. From then on all rifle production stopped except for a few conversions which continued until 1975[4]. During this timeBrowning became peripherally involved in both semiautomatic pistol manufacturing through designs collaboration with Remington Repeating Arms Company (RRA) culminating in what is now known as Remington Semi-Auto Pistol fame[5], however all cooperation ceased after Remington merged with Savage Arms Company forming Savage/Remington Electric Corporation LLC in 1978.[6] One significant event during this time period was browning moving their headquarters from Edmond KS to Springfield IL where they would remain until 2000 when they relocated back back to Kansas City MO[7]. Throughout their lifespanbrowning had developed several successful innovations such asblowback shotguns which allowed them to produce high quality shotguns at lower costs than traditional shotgun manufacturers while still using gas operated hoses,[8][9] airguns which could be fired without having your hand touch any reloadable ammo,[10] autoloaders for self loading pistols,[11], recoil reduction devices for hunting rifles,[12][13] target ranges kits allowing shooters to shoot hundreds or even thousands rounds per minute without breaking stride],[14][15][16][/vc_row][/vc_column][/vc_row]]
