Incorporation took place on April 3rd 1870 with James W Dublin as Mayor and George W Smith Vice Mayor The City had 1 fire engine and 4 streetlights when it got its charter On October 15th 1924 South Burlington voters approved $5 million for new streets and sidewalks which were soon built On November 10th 1935 during Franklin D Roosevelt's reelection campaign against John F Kennedy effective January 20th 1936 City Council unanimously passed Resolution No 2 authorizing Mayor James W Dublin to erect a large statue to President Franklin D Roosevelt in front Main Street

By 1830 most of the buildings around present day Market Square had been erected including Griggs' woolen store and post office building (now part of First National Bank), which still stands today. The first school in town was built on Meetinghouse Hill by Drury Lane School District #2 in 1916-17 on land donated by Mrs. Phebe Ayer Dodge and her husband George Dodge; it served as a one-room school until 1924 when an addition was built that doubled its size. In 1955–56 a new high school replaced Drury Lane School District #2's original building; this building still serves as thetown's only public school today. Later that year, cedar logs were brought downriver from Eliot Dam to be used for trimming trees on local farms; these logs formed part of the foundation for Town Hall and many other buildings located throughout centralSouthBurlington today.. The first Indian burial ground outside Quebec City was also located near where Main Street meets North Avenue within 2 miles (3 km) of downtown South Burlington proper; this cemetery is known today as Mount Auburn Cemetery .
