In 1951, it became part of Addison County and has since grown to have a population of over 20,000 residents. South Burlington is also home to one of the most comprehensive libraries systems in Vermont with over 100,000 items cataloged from books to videos and software products. There are many civic activities that take place throughout the year including holding interpretive walks around downtown during summertime; hosting music festivals such as Green Mountain Folk Festival each fall; hosting annual agricultural shows at its Agricultural Research Center; producing local cheese; producing local apples; hosting an annual ice cream social during July/August called "Frosty' Night"; annually staging an arts festival called "Fine Arts Fest" which features creative exhibits from local artists as well as food pairings from renowned restaurants along with live music throughout the day; sponsoring races weekdays around town including bobcats running through town on opening day starting at 9am followed by motorcycle races on Saturday mornings concludes with a parade down Main Street before dinner at one of the city's many fine dining establishments
