The history of gun magazines in South Burlington, Vermont can be traced back to 1881. At that time, the town of South Burlington was founded on the banks of the Chenango River. The first store in town was built by John Fitch and his son-in-law, Isaac Cline. In 1883, George W. Taylor opened a store in what is now the heart of town. From these early beginnings, gun magazines gradually began to appear in South Burlington. In 1907, J.P. Richardson opened a store adjacent to the old First National Bank building on Grand Street. This business served as the nucleus around which other stores and businesses developed over the years. In 1916, Halsey & Sons Store became one of the first gun stores in South Burlington when it opened at 8 Cannon Road across from Trinity Episcopal Church on Broad Street. This store was operated by Halsey Brothers until it closed its doors in 1954.* *One notable exception to this trend is First National Bank which has been open continuously since 1881 (albeit with various names).
South Burlington, VT is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The population was 24,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Burlington–Aurora-Middlebury, VT Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Burlington was platted in 1799 and became a municipality in 1851. South Burlington is named for Samuel Gardner Southard, an early settler. The town has been home to many notable people over the years including: current Mayor Peter Shumlin; former mayors Gerrymandering and Scott Reardon; NHL player Bernie Parenteau; and sculptor Jay Lynch. The nearby college system also includes three universities - Vermont College (founded in 1833), Middlebury College (founded in 1865) and Amherst University (established in 1903). South Burlington is located on Lake Champlain just east of the city of Aurora and south of North Bridgeport. The lake provides excellent fishing opportunities for both bass and walleyes as well as numerous species of canoeing, boating, swimming and skiing enthusiasts throughout the year. One summertime tradition that residents enjoy is "Fishing Sheets" which are annual open air tournaments where citizens compete to catch most variety of fish using their own gear or borrowed equipment from friends or family members. One popular tourist attraction within South Burlington are its beautiful downtown streetscape buildings with their characteristic Mansard roofs which date back to 1801 when the original town hall was built on State Street by Captain John Montresor who named it after his son Sir Samuel Gardner Southard who lived in neighboring Watertown at that time. In addition to its downtown area there are several other interesting neighborhoods such as Highland Park which contains large estates dating back to before 1800AD while Westville features Victorian homes dating from around 1860AD as well as many smaller villas dotting what used to be rural farmland now known as parkland/homesites near Lake Champlainogeneddale between Cookstown Road & Frontier Drive Extension

South Burlington, VT is a small town located in Rutland County, Vermont. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1852 by refugees from Great Britain and Ireland. South Burlington is the home of the University of Vermont and Burlington Northern Railway (BN). South Burlington has a rich history that includes many events that have shaped the city today. The first residents of what is now South Burlington were British immigrants who had fled to Canada during the revolutionary war. In 1852, they moved to what is now North Burlington and established a farming community which soon became known as "The Village". On July 10th, 1855, South Burlington's first school opened with twelve students. It was built on land donated by Mrs. Elizabeth Cookman and served until 1902 when it was replaced by an addition which still stands today. In 1861, two years after Vermont became a state, Congress passed the Morrill Act which gave land grants to towns in Vermont for educational purposes. South Burlington received its grant in 1865 and began to build its present campus which included a gymnasium and library. In 1880, John Ralston Purcell donated land west of downtown for use as an industrial park and south of that parcel he built his homes now known as The Westin Hotel-Lodge and The Ralston House (now part of Holyoke College). During World War II, much activity took place within South Burlington due to its strategic location as any major battlefront would have impact on both civilians living nearby as well as military personnel stationed nearby (See: Battle OfSouthBurlington 1944 ). Afterward, many people relocated back into their original neighborhoods but some continue to live in the city today through out various businesses or residency permits granted by City Hall allowing people multiple residences within one municipality without breaking township laws.). On October 15th 1948 when President Harry S Truman delivered his speech "A New Deal For Our Nation" southwest corner lot #5694 on Main Street between Elm Street & School Street formerly belonging to Mrs George Washington appeared for sale at $2 per acre . After being shown around many times over 4 days by Truman’s personal assistant Abe Fortas it sold on October 25th (#6016) for $10 per acre becoming one of only two lots ever offered for sale at $2 per acre during Truman’s presidency (#the other being Lot #6020 located just north east across Seneca Ave from where I am standing). With this purchase came much needed money necessary for reconstruction following World War II including construction of local roads gridlock caused by veterans returning home having no job skills whatsoever yet needing housing.. After years Orson Scott Card bought lot number 6016 from Mr Truman on OCTOBER 25TH 1948 FOR ONLY $10 A ACRES! CARD WAS CURRENTLY ONE OF THE LARGEST OWNERS OF BUSINESSES IN SOUTH BURLINGTON! CARD CREATED MUCH USHARP FUTURE FOR SOUTH BURLINGTON WITH HIS INVESTMENT IN THE CITY CENTER AND REHABILITATION OF WEST END SCHOOLS! From LOT#6016 thru SEPTEMBER 3RD 1958 there were 246 occupant applications processed thru BUILDING AUTHORITY & 7 STATE LICENSED EMPLOYEES ON LOTS INCLUDING 14 CONTRACTORS (& THEIR NECESSARY SUPPLIES) DUE TO THE OPENINGS OF WWII & RECONSTRUCTION! AFTER HAVING APPLIED MORE THAN 1/3 OF ALL APPLICATIONS THEY PROCEEDED TO MAKE AN ESTIMATE LIST THAT WAS THEN SUBMITTED TO THE BOARD OF Aldermen ON SEPTEMBER 3RD 1958 @ 9 PM! AFTER HEARING FROM MR TUCKMAN ABOUT THIS NUMBER THEY DECIDED THAT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH APPLICATIONS TO MAKE A LIST& SOTHEVER ADDITIONAL LAND WAS SOLDFOR £30 PER ACRE ALSO INCREASING THE VALUEOF LOTS NOW SOLD AT OVER £100 PER ACRE! BEFORE NOW NO ITCH OR PROBLEM HAS BEEN FOUND WITH BUILDINGS AUTHORITY MAKING SALE PROCEEDURES RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENTS MADE OUT BY NORMAL BUSINESS LAWFUL OPERATIONS!.
In 1636, the town of South Burlington was established on the south side of the Burlington River. The town grew rapidly due to its location and trade opportunities. In 1837, South Burlington became a county seat with the creation of Vermont County. In 1864, Vermont County was divided into two parts, East Vermont County and West Vermont County. South Burlington remained part of West Vermont County until 1915 when it became an independent municipality. South Burlington has since become one of the most thriving towns in Vermont.
