In 1872, South Burlington, Vermont passed a city ordinance forbidding the wearing of firearms within the city limits. Despite this ordinance and numerous prosecutions, gun owners continued to wear weapons in town until 1911. During World War II, VT residents supported the United States by manufacturing munitions for the war effort. This support led to an increase in gun ownership and production throughout VT. Gun enthusiasts continue to carry firearms in VT today as a way of supporting their community.

South Burlington, Vermont is a town in the US state of Vermont. The population was 34,083 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Burlington–Aurora–Westchester, MA Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Burlington is located on Lake Champlain and is bordered by the towns of East Norwich to the north, Milton to the west, North Hero to the south, and Watertown to the east. According to 2000 census data, it has a total area of 21 square miles (58 km²). The first people in what is now South Burlington were Native Americans who hunted game along Lake Champlain and its tributaries. In 1609, Englishman John Smith and his party arrived in what is now South Burlington from Canada and founded a small village on an island in the lake. At first they only traded with local Indians but soon began trading with Europeans as well. In 1613, Englishman Edmund Andros built Fort Orange on land that he confiscated from Indian Chief Massasoit. Andros named his new village after his original home in England – South Burlington – which he hoped would help show European visitors that he had not abandoned his Indian friends. In 1701, when British troops led by General George Washington captured New York City from Dutch forces during their invasion of New Netherland, they burned down Fort Orange so that nothing remained standing evidence of Andros' Village but rather a small mound today known as West India Island Park (now part of downtown South Burlington). On July 4th 1776 during Queen's American Revolution battle at Saratoga Springs against British forces commanded by Lt.-Colonel John Sullivan (later Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force), American General Nathanael Greene's army fought its way through two lines of British riflemen under cover of darkness towards this site where General Howe's cavalry were deployedriverine column across stream called Broadway bridge leading into battlefield near present day Abbey Hill Cemetery

South Burlington, VT is a town in the United States of America that was founded in 1797. The population was 27 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Vermont and New Hampshire. The first settlers to South Burlington were two brothers, Nicholas and John Thomas, who arrived in 1797 from Norwich, England. They built a log cabin on what is now Franklin Street. South Burlington grew slowly until 1825 when it had a population of five hundred people. In 1827-1828, local farmers organized into a cooperative society to produce hay for market. This led to the founding of the Burlington Railroad Company by businessmen Isaac Stevens and Alfred Sanger which cross countryailed from Rutland to get goods to South Burlington and beyond. On December 3, 1828, South Burlington became one of four towns in Vermont that joined together as the state of Vermont with its own government – an event known as "the Union". In 1870-71, while South Burlington was still part of Rutland County, local farmers formed another cooperative society called the Agricultural Society which produced hay for market again. This led to creation of what is now Vermonter Hay & Feed Co., Ltd., one of Southern Vermont's largest agricultural companies (now part owned by Monsanto). In 1916, during World War I there was significant growth in manufacturing industry due to increased demand for munitions after Belgium yielded their neutrality; this growth led also to new housing construction around downtown including several million square feet currently used by North American Aviation (later Boeing) Headquarters today as well as other large businesses such as Macy's Department Store and First National Bank building which are all still standing today! During World War II there was even more growth in manufacturing industry due mainly to increased demand for wartime materials like rubber products etc.; however because these industries contributed relatively little tax revenue ($1 billion total vs $30 billion national GDP), much criticism emerged about how an excessive amount of wealth had been created within very few hands at great expense without doing anything productive with it! In 1945–46 provincial government decided not renew grant program given high levels of corruption among grantees; instead they began focusing on other priorities such as rural electrification etc.. Consequently many factories closed down but some continued operations through private enterprise until recently! Economic recession hit southern VT hard during late 1990s; however since 2000s things have started improving with recent job gains across most sectors
In 1777, South Burlington was founded by the Sons of Liberty in response to the British Parliament's passage of a bill establishing slavery in New York. The town quickly became an abolitionist enclave, and pro-abolitionist sentiment remained strong until after the Civil War. South Burlington experienced rapid growth during the 20th century, with new businesses established and population growing from around 1,000 to over 10,000 by the end of World War II. The town's economy shifted towards service sector jobs during the 1990s recession, but has since begun to recover.
