In 1836, the first rifle range in Rutland was founded by Major C.H.Stowe and it continued to be used until 1919 when it was converted into a pistol range. It wasn’t until 1937 that the first shotgun range in Rutland was established and it continues to be used to this day. The ammunition that was fired at these ranges were all shot-gun rounds which are still being used today as projectiles for different activities within the community. By 1645 AD, British forces had invaded New Netherland and began enslaving its Native Americans so owning firearms became essential for defending oneself against future attacks by these foreign invaders. Consequently, handguns became popular among English settlers after being introduced into New England by the Dutchmen themselves! By 1700 AD however, most colonists had transitioned from bows and arrows to handguns due to their new military situation where cannonball warheads couldn’t take down large scale fortifications like warships or castles quickly enough!

It is part of the Hartford-New Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Rutland" derives from Old English rūth meaning "river", "holm", or "settlement." The first settler in what is now Rutland was George Fox, who arrived in 1638. He built a log cabin on the banks of the river. A post office called Rutland was established in 1795, and remained in operation until 1836. In 1811, James Kapp bought land west of present-day Rutland and began to build a mill thereon. After years of construction, Kapp's mill became one of the largest mills in New England. In 1870, he sold his interest in his mill to John Gorham Prentice Jr., who continued to operate it until it ceased production in 1951. In 1907, two brothers named Harry and Sidney Morse opened their own grocery store at 5 Main Street (later renamed Stanley's). They were followed by other stores over time; by 1961 there were fourteen businesses operating within one mile of downtown Rutland. In 1978, Stanley's merged with Jiffy Lube Incorporated to form Jiffy-Lube Corporation which still operates today as one of America's leading convenience stores chain with locations throughout North America including Rutland proper as well as major cities such as Toronto and Montreal Canada

Rutland, Vermont is a small town in Rutland County, Vermont. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Burlington-Aurora-Middlebury, VT Micropolitan Statistical Area. Rutland has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three hundred years and has one of the oldest churches in North America. The town was first settled by British colonists in1638 as part of a land grant to Sir George Carteret. In 1801, Rutland became an incorporated town under the name of Middlebury. In 1836, it changed its name to Rutland after its founder General James Kempton's brother-in-law, Sir John Rutland (1768–1851). In 1870s and 1880s, Rutland was known as a center for abolitionist activity due to its close proximity to Free State Hall where Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech was given on April 12th that year. This event led to increased attention from law enforcement officers who viewed abolitionists as suspects in several murders around the area at that time. In 1915, during World War I veteran's homecoming celebration celebrations organized by veterans' radio station WWI Veteran's News Service (WNVS), shots were fired into the air from a house near downtown Rutland injuring two people and causing damage to several homes before being suppressed by police; however this did not stop local residents from celebrating their war veterans with food and drink specials until 1919 when WNVS discontinued operations due to financial problems In 1951, President Harry Truman announced he would be traveling through Vermont on his way back from seesing off Mount Rushmore National Monument - making it only the second time such an announcement had been made while President of the United States; this event also brought new interest to RutLAND which soon saw development including retail stores such as JCPenney and Sears Roebuck along with restaurants such as The Applebees and Pabst Blue Ribbon The post office closed in 1984 but reopened in 1996 after being vacant for many years On July 1st 2006 changes were made to zoning laws withinVT giving developers more control over what could be built within their boundaries; this ledto increased development around downtown including luxury condos which have since become popular among locals Today much of what once characterized downtown Corktown is now open space or used for housing developments like Park Slope Village or Bridgwater Ridge Rutlands history can be found throughout its streetscape with examples like Main Street running parallel with Lake Champlain westward until it meets Green Mountain eastward again starting at Canal Road then continuing east continued up mountain until reaching Chestnut Street . Many businesses that once thrived down MainStreet are now long gone but memory still hangs heavy about them like Hissco & Sons Hardware where you can still buy apples today although they no longer carry any goods
