West Valley City, Utah is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 20,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, West Valley City had a median income of $53,417 and a poverty rate of 14%. West Valley City was founded on November 16, 1847 by George A. Smith as an agricultural settlement named after the Virgin Mary's birthplace in Northern Ireland. This site became known as "The Garden" because it contained large patches of wildflowers that attracted settlers from all over Tribune County. By 1865 the town had outgrown its original boundaries and was annexed by Kane County. In 1881 it incorporated as a city under the name "West Valley City." The first mayor was Wm. Fenton; he served until 1906 when Daniel Hite took office. In 1916 Mayor Hite resigned to take advantage of newly created opportunities for citizenship within Kane County while continuing to serve as mayor of West Valley City through 1917-1918; this made him the first person to hold both offices in one day! In 1955 President Dwight Eisenhower designated West Valley City as headquarters for his presidential campaign organization during his final year in office before leaving office. After his election victory in 1952 Eisenhower appointed Harry S Truman’s White House physician Drury Walker to be Mayor Hite’s successor until 1955 when Drury Walker retired due to age and health concerns; this position went vacant for three years until Deputy Mayor Orville Freeman took over on an interim basis until 1957 when he became Mayor Hite’s permanent replacement until 1960 when James Ewing succeeded him becoming one of only two mayors ever to serve two terms (the other being Orville Freeman). From 1961-1965 Captain Roy Hess led KSLA Radio Corporation's operations from their transmitter atop Summit Hill which also served as KSLA-TV's newsroom from 1965-1975; newsgathering operations shifted from downtown during these years to studios located on South Temple Street east of Main Street where they remain today (KSLA also operates KRON 4 television station now owned by KHQR TV Company) In 1970 President Richard Nixon issued Executive Order 13525 which ordered all U.S.-owned companies with more than fifty employees across America including those operating in or contributing directly to West Valley City into what is called “worker bees” status which would have given them certain benefits such as job security and increased benefits depending upon employee productivity

West Valley City is located on the Weber River and lies near Cache National Forest. The first people to live in what is now West Valley City were Paiute Indians who arrived there about 1847 from central California. White settlers first arrived in 1859 when Brigham Young led an LDS group westward from Nauvoo, Illinois. By 1860 many Mormons had moved into the area around Cache Creek where they built a log cabin and started a small irrigation system that produced crops for local families and sold goods to travelers on the Salt Lake Trail. In 1865 Mormon missionaries traveled through Kane County and met some Paiute Indians who warned them of Indian attacks planned against their settlements east ofCache National Forest In 1868 Mormon pioneers founded Winter Quarters (later named Dodgeville) about 5 miles southwest of present-day West Valley City on land donated by John Dickey. The settlers erected two houses, planted maize and potatoes, made cheesecloth rugs and other items using crude tools found along the way, baptized converts and began trading with Native Americans for goods they needed such as meat or cloth; they also took water from nearby springs to irrigate their crops In 1870–71 Mormons built a large mill known as Cedar Mill northwest of present day West Valley City after finding driftwood among blocks of white sandstone discovered near moderncache creek . The mill manufactured flour for local residents until it closed in 1902 due to low demand; it was replaced by a more advanced machine shop which still operates today as Cedar Mill State Historical Park . In 1872 Eliza Wheeler married David Merrill who became one of founder David Wells Fargo’s business partners David Wells Fargo organized Deseret Airways which served both Salt Lake City and Provo during World War I; he also developed winter housing developments in several cities including Ogden, Springdale and Cottonwood Heights southeast of Logan Airport banker George Romney purchased 1 ranch east of Cache Creek in 1896 which he used to support his farming operations before selling it to Harry Hays in 1907 Hays invested $5 million worth of cattle futures contracts in wheat production during World War I so he could barter goods with American soldiers fighting overseas; these transactions helped make him one of America's largest wheat traders Hays also founded what is now Deseret Industries Ltd., one of America's leading manufacturersof consumer electronics products including televisions, radios, batteries and computer equipment

The site of the town was a part of the original Salt Lake Valley that was given to Utah by Mexico in 1848. The first permanent settler in West Valley City was John Prentice. By 1860, there were over 100 people living in West Valley City. On December 12, 1861, the townsite of West Valley City became the nucleus for what would become Provo, Utah.
