They were typically made from cloth, leather, or other material that was stretched over a wooden frame and then bound around the muzzle of the gun. The earliest known references to gun slings date back to at least 1250 BC when an Assyrian king discovered a sling in Babylon. Later, evidence suggests that this type of sling was also used by Egyptians during their Amarna Period (14th dynasty – 17th century BC). Assyrian records mention how “a man with long hairinging [holds] up his bowstring and lets it fall behind him; then he takes hold of one end of the bowstring and pulls it tight” (Baghdad Tablet XII: 25). This type of release could be done either manually or through a device called a gitur or sheath. Gun slings were later adapted for use with bows by evolving into what is now called the “gun-slung bow”. The first gun-slung bows were developed in China in the 9th century AD and allowed for much more rapidfire than traditional bows. Thesebows had two different types of stocks which resembled each other but differed in their ability to release arrows simultaneously at close range. Gun-slung bows continued to increase in popularity throughout history until they finally fell out of favor due to technological advancements such as guns and artillery

West Valley City was founded in 1901 as a small farming community near the confluence of the Green River and Weber Rivers. The city grew rapidly after it was incorporated as a town in 1903, and by 1920 it had become the largest town in Utah. West Valley City attained its current status as a major metropolitan area in 1996 when it became part of Salt Lake City. The origins of West Valley City are obscure, but there is evidence that early settlers were interested in trading with the surrounding region for goods such as timber and livestock. By 1881, however, most of what is now West Valley City had been settled and development began. In 1902, the city submitted an application to become the territorial capital of Utah Territory; this nomination was accepted and West Valley City became the new Territorial Capital on January 3, 1903. In 1907, Mayor John Haggerty spearheaded efforts to build one of Utah's first Municipal Zoos; this project was completed two years later and quickly proved popular with residents and visitors. The municipal zoo continued to be a popular attraction until 1966 when it closed due to budget cuts. In 1916, Mayor Harry Wiebe founded The United States Rubber Company; this company would play a significant role in developing East Liberty into one of Utah's leading industrial cities during the late 20th century. In 1923 Mayor Wiebe erected what is now known as "Wiebe Park" on South First Street within walking distance of his home; this park served as an informal promenade for residents and tourists alike until its eventual closure in 1984 due to maintenance costs associated with its large size. From 1924 until 1949 Mayor Wiebe served as President pro tempore of the Utah State Senate; during his tenure he helped develop many important state laws including Education Code §25-2-101 (the predecessor to present dayUtah Code section 25-3-401). In 1932 Mayor Jerald Ruzicka initiated plans for what is now known as "Ruzicka Park"; this park would serve as an open space adjacent to downtown which would provide access to various public services such as tennis courts and playgrounds for children. The park remained unbuilt until 1978 when renovation efforts finally commenced resulting in its completion three years later - making it one of busiest urban parks in Salt Lake County! In 1946 Mayor Heber Jentzsch announced plans for what is now known as "Jentzsch Park;" this park would occupy much of north central University Avenue within walking distance from downtown. The park remained unbuilt until 2004 when renovations recommenced following local demand resulted in its formal dedication on October 15th! During his time atMayor Jentzsch led several important initiatives including establishment ofUtah's first college degree program ( Brigham Young Univ.), creatingofUtah's first municipally funded library system (Salt Lake County Library),and initiating constructionofoneofUtah's earliest water systems (City Water District). Today, Bishop Gorman High School located just east of Downtown provides education opportunities for young people living within easy reach while also providing recreational opportunities such that students have plenty opportunity both inside school grounds AND outside on campus!
