In West Valley City, Utah, there has been a longstanding firearms industry presence. The town was founded in 1866 as the original settlement of Promontory Point after the U.S. Geological Survey surveyed and mapped the area. In 1861, Brigham Young organized the Mormon Battalion which served in Israel during World War I and then moved to Utah where they fought in the Mexican-American War. After the war, many Mormons returned to Utah and established a firearms industry in West Valley City. The early firearms industry in West Valley City was based on two main types of businesses: hardware stores that sold handguns and rifles and importers who sales firearms across America. These companies were also responsible for manufacturing most of the pistols used by local law enforcement officers throughout Utah. By 1910, however, much of this guns production had departed for other states due to increased competition from imported guns from Europe and Japan. This decision came about because significant portions of our population still relied on hunting rifle ammunition for their personal protection which required registration with county sheriff's office; handguns could not be registered here at that time. Firearms regulation continued through various ordinances until 1990 when handgun registrations were no longer required by law due to Proposition 65 (the state constitutional amendment banning gun ownership by individuals over 21 years old). In 1998, Mayor Lee Parkinson passed an ordinance establishing a licensing system for firearm dealerships within my city limits which would later become known as "The Gun Authority". The authority was created to help increase gun control efforts within my city while also providing opportunities for small businesses interested in selling firearms to do so without fear of being discriminated against or having their licenses revoked should they violate state or federal regulations governing firearm behavior*. *Note: Since mayors are removable by the mayor-council pairings at any time, this authority eventually lapsed and all activations/deactivations ceased upon his departure

West Valley City is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 27,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become West Valley City were Mormon pioneers who arrived in 1847 from Book of Mormon land in Nephi County, Illinois. They founded a town near present-day Logan on the Deseret River and named it after their new homesite, Wacom Ridge (Wacom being an early name for Cache Valley). In 1850 they founded another small town just east of present-day West Valley City along the Wasatch Fault line; this town was renamed Ogden after Bishop George Fenton Ogden of the LDS Church's First Presidency and Quorum of The Twelve Apostles. From these two towns grew what would become West Valley City proper - an unincorporated area comprising parts of Kane, Provo, Lee and Weber Counties which became a city on December 15, 1912 when Pocatello Township merged into West Valley City limits. In 1915 Mayor John Buehler spearheaded passage of Utah's first municipal code establishing zoning for urban areas with specific restrictions on lot sizes and building heights; this ordinance was followed by similar ordinances passed by other cities throughout Utah during the 1920s and 1930s. Most noteworthy are perhaps the two main arterial streets that cross through downtown: State Street (later Spanish Fork Boulevard) running east-west within its original boundaries before branching off to form I-15 southbound and State Street northbound; as well as Union Pacific Railroad tracks bisecting downtown between Park Avenue & Roosevelt Road to create an elongated boulevard flanked by high rises designed by architects like Adolph Ziegler that still serve as important tourist destinations today. Downtown also contains several surviving turnpikes remnants from pioneer days including Pioneer Day Trail (now Capitol Reef Drive), Springdale Pike (now Draper Boulevard) and Cottonwood Heights Drive (now Middle East Boulevard). In recent years portions of downtown have been revitalized with much required infrastructure investment such as public transportation improvements such as light rail service to all surrounding neighborhoods plus bike lanes/pedestrian paths connecting all neighborhoods together in a continuous network across campus boundaries via Cherry Creek Parkway which runs adjacent to Main Street redefined following Comprehensive Plan recommendations made by then Mayor Ralph Beckerhorn following community input received during his term from 2007 until his resignation effective September 1st 2011 due to health concerns related to Addison's Disease / Lou Gehrig's Disease .
