West Jordan, Utah is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 10,429 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now West Jordan were the Utes. The area that includes today's West Jordan was first settled by Mormons who came overland from Nauvoo, Illinois during the 1830s and 1840s. In 1847 Brigham Young led a group of Mormon pioneers westward from Nauvoo on horseback and founded an outpost called "Cache Valley." When Mormon settlers arrived in Utah Territory in 1859 they selected this spot as their new settlement site because it had good soil and water resources. The original town was named Cache Valley after one of the pioneers, James C. Cache (1813-1893). Cache Valley grew rapidly and by 1865 there were about 100 residents living in small cottages near the forks of the creek which flows through central West Jordan. By 1870 most of Cache Valley had been built out with names such as Cedar City (later Cedar Vale), Logan Heights, Prospect Heights, Highland Heights and West Jordan. When Congress passed the Homestead Act on November 6th 1862 it became law that all railway land within territorial boundaries must be divided among those who claimed it upon filing a claim form with Secretary of War Edwin Mudge (March 4th 1863 – January 9th 1865). This regulation led to some 70 families claiming Rancho San Bernardino between Adams River and Springdale when that rancho was patented on December 5th 1860 by Manuel Antonio Chavez de la Vega y Pacheco (September 17th 1826 – May 1st 1912) In 1867 Brigham Young ordered his young men to build a stockade around Fort Bridger so that Indians could not come into our country without having first obtained our permission which they did not obtain until after we had withdrawn from under your jurisdiction As time went on more farms were erected within easy reach of Fort Bridger so much easier access to Indian hunting grounds became available for white men then it ever has since…. consequently there have been few intruders into this section since [the] early days And when John Wittell Cooke came here he made[d] an end to these difficulties between us Anglo-Mormons After years of skirmishes with various bands or groups including Kit Carson’s expedition in 1876 there are still references found throughout this valley indicating intermittent warfare going back several decades prior

West Jordan, Utah is a town in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in West Jordan was John Atchison who arrived in 1847 and named it after his father-in-law, David Waddell. In 1850, Payson and George Hanks moved to the community from Ogden. After a few years of growth and development by the early 1900s, West Jordan became an established city with a population of 3,000 people in 1910. However, during World War I the city's population decreased as many local men enlisted to fight for their country while their families stayed behind to help support them. As a result of this decrease in population following World War I and rapid economic development that followed throughout Kane County during the 1920s through 1930s spearheaded by ranchers such as Dallen Woolley (founder of SLC) and Rufus Dodge (founder of Deseret Industries), West Jordan experienced rapid growth through its incorporation into Kane County on October 15th 1930 as one of 11 rural towns added to county government under Governor Claude Danforth's "Rural Municipalities Act". Although annexed by Kane County pursuant to that act - although not mentioned specifically - most residents here viewed annexation primarily as an opportunity for better access to county services which they saw as necessary due to increasing suburbanization within what had been once a farming community dating back centuries; thus continuing Kendall's "desirable isolation" until recently still standing today among some of Utah's most affluent suburbs. This rural/suburban dichotomy persisted into later decades when more services were provided within satellite cities such as Provo or Sandy but also continued insofar as zoning regulations allowed large tracts of single family homes only for farmers or other agricultural users while suburban developments sprang up around school buses stoplights servicing these established communities making it difficult for small businesses or professionals situated near these stopslighted neighborhoods to thrive despite efforts over time by elected officials including then Mayor Norma Hawkins (now First Lady) and current Mayor Jackie Biskupski (former Commissioner)to address this issue head on; even going so far as creating legislation designed specifically targetting this issue In recent years there has been renewed interest in restoring some aspects of West Jordan’s history especially given its proximity to downtown Salt Lake City where several museums are located including The Church History Museum which is home to oneof America’s largest collections of LDS artifacts including items from Joseph Smith’s Nauvoo Mansion The first settlers: John Atchison and David Waddell settled at Kanesville came overland on horseback from Independence Missouri on July 24th 1847 A year later they founded WestJordan on December 2nd 1848 Located east side off US 6 about 5 miles south Of Brigham Young University
