West Jordan, Utah is a city in the Wasatch Range of the United States. It is bordered by Davis County to the north, Weber County to the east, and Uinta County to the south. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. The name "West Jordan" was given to this community by early settlers because of its location in what was then known as Midvale Township. The first white men to visit this area were led by Captain John C. Fremont in 1847 when he penetrated into Utah Territory from Nevada on his way southward. He named a small creek called Fremont's Gulch after him and his party. A year later, Brigham Young came through these same area and discovered gold near Waco in Kanab County; he named that stream for himself too. In 1850, Lorenzo Snow explored these same hills and found more gold veins but abandoned them due to bad weather conditions inland; however, this discovery helped spark westward migration of Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois overland during that era. In 1863 Mormon pioneers arrived at Mount Carmel (now West Jordan) following an arduous horseback ride across snow-covered country that had not been traveled since Kansas City had been founded two years earlier; they began building their Salt Lake Valley temple onsite and naming it after President Abraham Lincoln who had visited here during his visit to Iowa in 1858-59 as part of his effort to gain support for his side in the Civil War while also visiting other settlements along the Great Salt Lake River valley which he saw as potential sites for future temples: Cedar Mesa (1863), Sugar House (1864), Provo (1865), Orem (1867). When Brigham Young died suddenly on April 12th 1865 at age seventy-six after a long life spent among those leading Mormonism throughout its formative years, most people believed that he would be succeeded by Joseph Smith III who had shown promise as a Prophet before being dismissed from church office for polygamy which was considered unacceptable under LDS standards then or any time thereafter; however within days of young Joseph's death without having seen him or spoken with him about succession arrangements there followed an uproar led by some high ranking Mormon officials including First Presidency member David Greenglass announced that George Quesada should succeed him instead due to Quesada's experience with land holdings & real estate operations etc.; moreover many felt Quesada could not have handled such sensitive business if he were properly chosen because of his lack of education & background etc., although many others thought Greenglass might have been forced into making this announcement prematurely because some powerful individuals wanted Quesadaointed despite objections from Elder Orson Pratt who opposed succession planning etc., although Priesthood leaders generally agreed that Quesada should not have been elevated without further ado because there was no full bench replacement available & even though other candidates like John Taylor were widely respected within the Church even though few people knew their names! Although much activity took place between 1860-1930 notwithstanding alledged interference from influential individuals (& some false allegations made against me personally!), little if any new information has emerged regarding Brigham Young's funeral& subsequent succession plans which remain one of history's most mysterious events ever! For more than sixty years now BYU students have annually held an event styled "Brigham Young Day" which celebrates religious freedom ideals espoused by our founder via essays, speeches, exhibits & general investigations into matters pertaining thereto;; additionally numerous outdoor activities take place each springon campus featuring local talent resulting in several thousand dollars being awarded annually thru various contests viz.: annual open house weekend where public access is allowed; agricultural show judged BY locals/from around world; music festival featuring top tour artists each fall attendance reaches upwards OF 100000+ spectators/weekend opener preceding Christmas); Enoch Pratt Free Library opens its doors every day except Sundays beginning January 1st providing free reading material thru out entire facility overnight hrs.;during winter months library hours are extended until 10pm Wednesdays thru Saturdays excluding holidays

West Jordan, Utah is a city in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 10,671 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davis County and part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The name "West Jordan" was chosen because it was on the west bank of the Jordan River when first settled by pioneers in 1847. The West Jordan community began as a small Mormon farming village located twelve miles (19 km) northeast of Salt Lake City on what is now Interstate 15. Settlement continued until 1890, when Brigham Young ordered all Mormons east of Cedar Hills to leave for fear they would convert to Mormonism and establish another church in their new homeland. A small group of Mormons (the Post Office Department) decided to stay behind and build a town on land that had been donated by John Dallin—an early settler who also became an apostle in the LDS Church and served as president during much of pioneer days in Utah Territory. In 1892, post office officials renamed West Jordan "Salt Lake City". When that city's population reached 350 residents, it reverted to its original name; however, most people continue calling themselves "WestJordanians." Salt Lake City experienced rapid growth from its founding through World War II due largely to several factors: religious tourism brought people from around the world to see LDS temples; government contracts for construction projects led to increased business for local builders; air travel made available areas near major cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco; and advances in telecommunications made it possible for people living near large metropolitan areas such as Salt Lake City or Denver to easily access goods and services unavailable only a few miles away. These changes have had significant consequences not just for West Jordan but also for other parts of Davis County - including Provo, Sandy Hill, South Ogden, Springdale andOrem - which have seen declines in population size over time while Salt Lake City has grown increasingly diverse both ethnically and economically.
