West Jordan, Utah is home to the first gun mag in the United States. The mag was established in 1935 by members of West Jordan Lodge No. 7, a Masonic lodge. It was the first magazine to be published in the city and it closed its doors in 1966.

West Jordan was founded on November 12, 1847 by Mormon pioneers led by Brigham Young and included land that would later be annexed by Salt Lake City. The first stores opened in what is now West Jordan on October 29, 1857. On November 12 of that year Brigham Young proclaimed it to be the new capital of Deseret and named it after his favorite flower - wild roses - which grew abundantly near his home city of Nauvoo. The main street in town today still bears this name: 17th Avenue Wagon Wheel Drive NW (now Coventry Road). As one could imagine with such an early settlement there were many challenges faced during its formative years including lack of water, limited transportation options and a difficult environment for farming but these did not prevent West Jordan from becoming an important cultural center for the LDS Church within minutes of its founding. Today there are over 350 businesses located in downtown WestJordan employing almost 2000 people who provide vital services to their community including retail commerce, health care and government services as well as numerous churches and mosques operating out of various buildings throughout downtown which continue to play a pivotal role in local life. West Jordan, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weber County. West Jordan was settled by Mormons in 1847 and named for the biblical town of Jericho. West Jordan has been home to some of the earliest settlers in Weber County and has been Rasmussen's grocery store since 1863. In 1868, A.C. Rasmussen built a sawmill on the current site of his store and began producing lumber from local cedar trees that were then being exported to nearby Lawrence, Kansas. In 1903, Rasmussen's son-in-law Wm Henson opened the first post office in West Jordan and continued operating it until 1971 when it was replaced by the present building on Main Street. In 1930, President Herbert Hoover visited WestJordan while he was campaigning for election as president and boycotted all subsequent events there due to its proximity to Salt Lake City which Hoover considered an unfair advantage given Utah's Republican leanings at that time. After his inauguration as president in 1933, he made a stop at WestJordan during one of his visits to Utah before continuing on to Denver where he delivered remarks before Congress regarding Roosevelt's new New Deal programs.. The city annexed much of rural Weber County between 1951 and 1957 because population growth rates were faster than available lotteries or eminent domain could accommodate; however annexation did not result in any major economic development within the city limits other than an increase in services offered by adjacent towns such as Ogden (to the east), Supply (to the north) and Layton (to the west). In recent years Mayor Clint Watts has worked hard with downtown firefighters who have responded effectively when fires have broken out throughout town during wintertime; this year alone there have been three separate fires that destroyed several homes but only one resulted in injuries or damage beyond just minor repairs necessary; most recently a small fire caused extensive damage early Saturday morning inside One Stop Shop located off US Highway 89 near State Capitol Garage
