Upon arriving at Salt Lake City on July 14th, 1847 they founded what would be known as "Washington." These early settlers worked primarily in agriculture until white settlement began in earnest by early 1855 when surveyor John W. Woolley reported that he had discovered goldmining near present-day Provo and announced his intentions to explore this potential landmass further eastward. In 1860s two Latter Day Saint missionaries named George Quesada and Lorenzo Snow arrived in Washington with instructions to proselytize among local Indian tribes which they did successfully for several years before finally being expelled by some members of those tribes after an angry argument about sharing food with their cousins living within sight of their campsites! After this incident some Mormons decided against proselytizing any longer and instead settled down within easy walking distance of each other for mutual support should anything occur with regard to aboriginal relations or missionary activities among them; these bucolic days came to an end following a series of bitter clashes between LDS missionaries and Paiute Indians beginning around 1875 called "The Massacre at Washita" which left dozens dead along polygamous Anasazi Creek clanswomen who had attempted peaceful subsistence farming alongside their own kin….. By 1890 there were only 8 families remaining scattered throughout various valleys surrounding Cache Valley including parts now covered by Butte National Park) With white settlement increasing closer as well as more assimilation taking place things changed rapidly here too…. Prior thereto most residents either subsisted off game hunting or gathered eggs from nests while children took turns tending fires during harsh winter months; both methods looked out for one another but soon got into trouble when game became scarce….. This situation not so much improved 20+ years later when we started having cars (roads?) & electricity (& telephone!), all good things but still 2/3rds our size

During this time, Washington became an important military base for the Confederates and was used as a storage depot and staging point for operations against Union forces. After the war ended in 1865, Washington reverted back to U.S. control and remained an important military post until it closed its doors permanently in 1970.
