After Ulysses S Grant became General George Custer's cavalry general at Little Bighorn in April 1890 following his victory over wagon train at Battle of Powder River, troops from Cache County were called into service under Grant to clean up Custer's bloodied battlefields south of here. On July 4th, 1893—the 50th anniversary of D&C 115—George Quesnel organized a large picnic near present-day Mormon Temple Square to celebrate this event which attracted many people from all over America including dignitaries such as President Grover Cleveland and Vice President John Witherspoon In 1887 George Quesnel established what would become Brigham Young Univ., later renamed BYU when it moved from Provo, UT to Ogden after becoming an official university status on October 16th 1880 via a law passed by the state legislature In 1907 Congress passed Public Law 89–206 establishing Monument Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets NW as a National Historic District celebrating fifty years since Nauvoo Landing marked the beginning of American settlement westward In 1955 LDS Church president Ezra Taft Benson dedicated Temple Square adjacent to Welfare Hall where he delivered his first sermon

The population grew rapidly during World War II when many local farmers became involved in the war effort. They produced food for soldiers on Oahu and other islands in the Pacific theater. The history of Washington begins with several pioneers who moved from eastern Virginia to this area around 1849. One of these Pioneers, David Bridger, named his new settlement after George Washington because he thought that this man's name would be more famous here than any other in Utah Territory at that time. After landing here on July 10th,1849, Bridger’s party built a log cabin which they named Fort Bridger (later renamed Fort Kearny). Their first crops were harvested two weeks later and soon thereafter they started trading goods with neighboring settlements along the Great Salt Lake Valley - such as Logan & Stroudsburg – making it their main trade route between those areas and Salt Lake City! In 1850 their first child was born here – Samuel Hyrum Smith! Fort Bridger continued to serve as a military post until 1861 when it was abandoned due to lack of supplies needed by troops fighting against Confederate forces nearby on Deseret Plateau! From then until 1865 it served as an Indian Agency (Kiowa & Apache) before being turned over to Brigham Young’s army retreating from Omaha River Battle! Following Indian Removal in 1887 all vestiges of Fort Bridger were destroyed except for some stones still standing today within sight of town limits! Today what remains of Fort Bridger can be seen across US Highway 6 just east of its junction with State Route 132 near Cedar Hills
Washington, Utah was founded on November 3, 1847 by George Washington and his wife Martha. The town was named for President Washington because he had traveled through the area in 1845. The first store in the town was opened by Prentice Hall and Company. In 1854, the Utah legislature passed a bill authorizing the formation of a township in Washington County. On January 1, 1865, the township became a city when it was incorporated as Salt Lake City.
