The current downtown district began developing after 1954 when local businessmen donated land for a planned shopping center that would include an ice rink, movie theater, and other retail outlets. The downtown district now includes over 100 shops and restaurants as well as two professional sports teams (the Utah Jazz and NFL's Rams) along with more than 20 cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, and theaters. Today Tooele is one of America’s fastest-growing major cities with median household income increasing from $85,821 in 2000 to $107,017 in 2010—an increase of 12%. Its population continues to grow rapidly with nearly 1 million residents projected to reach 2 million by 2050 according to projections by UBS AG/ CRP Associates LLP). Although some aspects of life remain relatively traditional rural values such as isolationism towards new arrivals while maintaining tight community ties among longtime residents are still clearly visible throughout much of today’s society including limited access or diverse transportation options within minutes’ walk or bike ride away from most businesses while large majorities have access excellent quality public education opportunities through both private primary schools operated by religious denominations overseen by state government entities while neighboring counties offer alternative educational choices such as charter schools options that often outperform those offered within their boundaries

Tooele, Utah is a town located in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Tooele was laid out by David Waddell in 1871 and named for General George Armstrong Custer. The first store in Tooele opened on Main Street on November 1, 1871. The post office was established in 1872 and changed its name to Tooele on October 16, 1906. In 1907, the First National Bank of Tooele was founded and became a national bank. The city was incorporated as a village on November 3, 1912. On January 10, 1916, the village voted to become an incorporated city with a mayor and vice president. The first municipal building was erected in 1916 at 2400 North First Avenue (now Second Avenue). On December 12 of that year, the city limits were expanded northward to encompass present-day South Cottonwood Heights and eastward to include present-day Queen Creek Canyon Village prior to being reincorporated as a city again on January 10th of 1917 . On May 11th of that year Mayor Harry Tingey resigned effective June 30th because he could not serve due to ill health; he had been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis which caused him great pain from eating solid food for over two years prior thereto…..In 1918 when originally organized there were only 2 residents: Mr Cook who lived west side of downtown between 2nd Ave & Hwy 89 then south side next door also known as Butte House & Mrs Cook who lived east side next door between Hwy 89 & 5th Ave
On December 1, 1847, the first Latter-day Saint settlement in Tooele County was organized by Brigham Young. The town of Provo was founded on the same date and became the capital of Utah. In 1850, Tooele County was divided into two parts - Tooele County north of the Arapaho River and Cottonwood County to the south. On November 26, 1888, Tooele City was renamed Provo City in honor of President James M. Quinn who had recently been elected president of The United States.
