Tooele is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 7,912 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1887 and named after Tooele Lake. It is the county seat of Weber County. The first white settlers in Tooele were Nelsons who arrived in 1851. They built a log cabin on the east bank of Tooele Lake and called it "Homespun." In 1860, John Witherspoon settled near what is now downtown Tooele. He built a two-story sod house on the northeast corner of First and Main Streets. A post office was established at this location in 1861, and name changes followed: Hartsville from 1861 to 1865; Parkerville from 1865 to 1867; Fromworth from 1867 to 1870; Toepland from 1870 to 1875; Topanga from 1875 to 1880; and finally Toepland again from 1880 to 1886. By 1886, only about 100 residents lived in the town site that became downtown Tooele. In 1888, George Capps organized a group of farmers who wanted to set up an agricultural colony near where he lived on Beale Creek outside Ofensing City (now Provo). This group moved into what is now downtown Tooele and began farming with their own tools and techniques rather than relying on others for assistance or support. In 1893 they formed the Agricultural Society of Weber County which delivered seed crops directly to local farmer's homes throughout the county through a system known as "the wagon wheel." In 1907 Salt Lake City annexed Weber County including much of present day Weber County including parts of Whatcom Township (now part of Ogden), Soquel Village (now part of Orem), Cottonwood Heights (now part of Taylorsville), North Ogden Village (now part of Sandy), South Ogden Village (now part ofuntuwy) – giving rise to today's merged city/county seat status for both cities combined with its current name "Tooele". On July 15, 1907 Mayor J L Whitehead addressed a crowd gathered before the US Post Office building ""On Saturday night I went out into town with my partyLooped around by some friendsI saw that there was goingto be an annexation problem between our two towns so we presented ourselves before USPTO under pretense that we wanted our old post office back"" which resulted in Seely being annexed intoTooele along with other eastern villages within what would become Weber Countyshipping area around Cedar City becoming Tannerney while Winterfield became Needles Springs

Tooele, Utah is a city in southern Utah and the county seat of Tooele County. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the east side of the Great Salt Lake and is bordered to the south by Cedar City, to the north by Ogden, and to the west by Logan. The area that would become Tooele was first settled by Mormon settlers in 1847. In 1860, Tooele was incorporated as a town with a population of 20 people. A post office was established in 1865, and remained in operation until 1951. The city's first mayor was J.C. Cope (1890-1901). During World War II, Tooele became one of 14 industrial zones across America designated for manufacturing munitions; its industries included war materials production such as aircraft engines and tanks etc., as well as plastics products such as Bakelite and Plexiglas. In 1994, Mayor Norma Jean Smith announced plans to demolish downtown's original fabric store buildings - which had been abandoned for years - in order to make way for an expanded library system which would also include new classrooms and other facilities outside of downtown. On November 6th of that year, nearly two weeks after being elected into her third term (and just over two months before she would be sworn into office), Smith met with local business owners who formed a coalition called "Save Downtown" to oppose her decision; they argued that demolition would create an ugly eyesore near one of Utah's most iconic tourist attractions while not providing enough public funding for new development within downtown Tooele proper: according to Save Downtown spokesperson Matt Browning "The drop off from [Downtown] onto State Street is so significant you can't even see it." Ultimately though Smith upheld her decision; with community protest mounting against her plan throughout December 2006 she reversed course later that year when money seemed available from state legislators earmarked specifically for downtown redevelopment instead On July 15th 2009 Mayor Norma Jean Smith announced plans for a $10 million expansion of Moab’s Park District – including increased programming opportunities for children age 3 through 8 along with more open space within walking distance – following approval from neighboring towns regarding annexation efforts surrounding Moab Municipal Airport In response organized groups like Main Street United came together under the name “No Sprawl” attempting unsuccessfully to stop annexation but failed pleads from Mayor Smith during council meeting on October 2nd 2009 budget justification emailChain showed emails between civic leaders asking if annexed land could be used instead or if annexation happened without vote & this email Chain further shows lack thereof knowledge among top leadership about potential consequences associated with No Sprawl movement
Tooele was founded on November 29, 1872 by the brothers George and John Tooele. The town grew up around the local irrigation system, and became a center for agriculture and industry. By the late 19th century, Tooele had become an important commercial center in Utah. In 1919, Tooele became a city.
