On October 1, 1847, Brigham Young and his men organized the Mormon Battalion in Tooele County. The battalion was composed of thirteen men and four boys. They left their homes on the Promontory Mountains in western Utah to march to Salt Lake City. On November 4 they arrived at the city and were processed into the military.
