Taylorsville is a small town in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Taylorsville is home to the Taylorsville Regional Airport and the Taylorsville Junior High School. The town was founded in 1868 by Mormon pioneers who came from Nauvoo, Illinois. Taylor'sVILLE is named after local founder Orson Hyde Taylor Jr.'s father-in-law, Lorenzo Snow. On December 15th, 1869, Mormons led by Brigham Young set out from Nauvoo on their way to Independence Hill in Nebraska Territory. They were met with hostility and violence from Native Americans living in what is now Weber County. On January 4th of that year they reached Taylor'sVILLE and began construction of their first fortification: a log cabin known as "The Hanging Tree." In 1870 Captain John Cofer took command of the fortifications and supervised the construction of another log fortification called "The Stone Fort". In 1872 Captain James Witte took command of the fortifications and supervised the construction of a third log fortification known as "The Cypress Tree". 1st Lieutenant George Atherton commanded The Stone Fort from 1872 until his death circa 1880; afterwards First Lieutenant Alfred Knopper took overcommanding duties until his promotion to Colonel on October 5th 1886. colonel Alfred Knopper built most or all of what are now Taylor'sVILLE'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS INCLUDING THE TAYLOR VILLAGE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (now called Park Elementary) FROM HIS OWN MONEY AND WITHOUT COMPENSATION OF ANYONE ELSE….AND HE ALSO BUILT ALL THE STREETS IN THE AREA…..
