Taylorsville is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Taylorsville is an agricultural community and its economy revolves around agriculture, ranching and other related businesses. The first settlers in Taylorsville were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1881. The town was named for John TAYLORS, one of the original pioneers of Cedar City and builder of the first Zion Chapel there. This company consisted of 9 men: Wm HUGHES ( captain ), Geo RUSSELL ( second lieutenant ), Jno MITCHELL ( third lieutenant ), Fenton MILLER ( corporal ), James McMULLEN ( sergt.), Andrew BISHOP ( privates ). They were mustered into service with the Utah Volunteer Infantry on August 14th 1892 at Fort Bridger under command of Major General George Aiken Bliss Smith. On November 3rd 1892, they left for Mexico where they served as guards at Tejas Provision Station until February 1893 when they returned to Utah Territory and joined the 7th BattalionUtah Volunteers which had been raised by Colonel John Dorman Cooks to fight against Mexico during the Border War. These men were mustered into service on April 25th 1893 at Cedar City . At that time Company K numbered 12 men: Wm HUGHES(captain), Geo RUSSELL(2nd lieutenant), Jno MITCHELL(3rd lieutenant), Fenton MILLER(corporal), James McMULLEN(sergt.), Andrew BISHOP(privates). On October 15th 1898 Captain Wm HUGHES died suddenly while commanding Company K during a march from Fort Douglas eastward along Blanding Creek towards Bear Lake after being wounded by Indians near this stream about 8 miles distant from Taylorsville . He was buried at Bearskin Spring Cemetery some distance from his unit . His remains are interred there today with those of his companys other officers and privates who also perished while serving their country in its earliest days Company L , organized on January 5th 1899 under Captains Archibald Macaulay & David Milne consiste’dof 10 men: Robt MURRAY (captain ), Angus ALEXANDERSTON , Hugh McILROYMORE*, Arthur KEYNES*, Spence HOWLAND* (* later transferred to 2nd battalion) John DAVIES*.(* later transferred to 3rd battalion) t he remainder became Companies M & N on March 6th 1899 after Maj Gen Bliss Smith relieved him de facto commander over all forces west of Soda Springs In company G began operations September 1901 commanded by Lieut Col Charles Goodyear consisting only of Private Michael JACKSON private * did not serve with regiment long enough to become eligible for pension ** did not live long enough to claim pension
