Taylorsville, Utah is the most populous city in Uinta County and the county seat of Taylorsville. The population was 20,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. In 1892, shotgun manufacturer William Tellick opened his store at 5 Main Street which became one of the largest firearms dealers in country with over 100 employees. At this time, rifles were still being made with both muzzle-loading and percussion cap shotguns and there were no handguns available for sale or purchase outside of local stores like Tellick’s store until well into World War II. In 1907, two brothers named Harry Reidy started a flour mill on South Water Avenue which supplied ammunition to various businesses throughout Taylorsville including rival John Atherton’s grocery store on North First Street where Reidy killed Atherton while defending himself from an attack by other customers on November 16th 1906 using his flour mill as cover; thus beginning what would become known as “The Day Of The Gunshop Massacre” (Atherton had earlier been shot dead at his business premises).
