Taylorsville is a small town in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is named after former U.S. Congressman and Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and his wife Lillie Tayloe Hatch. In 1876, Tad Smith purchased a land grant from President Ulysses S. Grant for $1 million (now $38 million). He built the first irrigation ditch in Taylorsville on the now-demolished Deseret View Farm property which he donated to Taylorsville Improvement Association in 1886. In 1913, Smith donated land for the construction of Utah State Capitol and also funded the addition of an east wing to that building which still stands today as one of the most distinctive features of that structure. In 1916, Congressman Hatch moved to Taylorsville from his home in Ogden and became its first Mayor, serving until he was appointed acting U S Senator when Jeff Sessions resigned due to illness. After leaving the Senate, he served as Mayor once again from 1952-1960 before retiring at age 72 and moving back to his home state ofUtah where he died in 1982. The town's economy is mostly agricultural with some light manufacturing currently taking place on a limited basis using local resources such as ceramics made from local clay mines or locally grown fruits and vegetables

Taylorsville was founded in 1870 by J.F. Taylors and his wife Lillie. The Taylorsville Tannery, the first hardwood lumber mill in Utah, opened in 1871. The business prospered for many years until it closed in 1902 due to the Panic of 1907. The Taylorsville School District was formed in 1922 and classes were initially held at the old farmhouse on Second Street. In 1926, a new school was built on Third Street, becoming the district's second campus. In 1938, the school district moved to its current location on Taylorsville Road. In 1959, a new annex was constructed on East First Street to serve as the district's third campus. In 1984, a large addition was made to the eastern side of First Street near Interstate 15 which became home to the district's fourth campus. In 2001, an additional annex was constructed on West Fifth Avenue which served as District 5's fifthcampus. Today, District 5 operates four campuses: one located in Taylorville; one located off US- drive I-15 east of town; one located off I-15 south of town; and one located east of town along South Temple Street between State Highway 7 and Eighth Avenue.]
