Taylorsville is located on State Route 9 east of Provo and west of Cedar City. The village has a population of about 350. The first settlers to Taylorsville were David White and his family, who arrived in 1847. They set up a cabin on the edge of the town and began to trade with other pioneers nearby. In 1850, two more families moved into Taylorsville from Ogden; these were the Whites' children John and Nancy (Nancy) White. In 1853, General Joseph Smith married Daughters Lucy Mackenzie and Emma Winchester at Taylorsville Chapel. Smith's wagon train stopped there for supplies before continuing on to Nauvoo, Illinois. After arriving at Nauvoo, Smith offered his wife and daughters as marriage partners to Joseph Fielding Marriott (1801-1875), Brigham Young's brother-in-law. When it was determined that Smith would not be able to serve as President because he had blood obligations to others in heaven, he arranged for them all to move away from Nauvoo and live near Mount Carmel where they could continue their religious activities unmolested. This group eventually numbered fourteen people - six women and eight men - including seven children: Samuel Whitmer (1805-1876), Laman Whitmer (1807-1877), Ragland Whitmer (1810-?), Moroni Whitney (born October 17th? – died young?), Ensign Lorenzo Snow (October 12th? – ), Spencer Wightman (September 25th? – ?). The Tayloe familyowned a sawmill and gristmill in the town until they sold them to Brigham Young in 1865. He built the first church at Tayloeville in 1867. In 1888, he donated land to build the Mormon Tabernacle Choir House and other temple facilities in Tayloeville.
