In 1847, Brigham Young founded Taylorsville as a Mormon settlement on an east-west trading route between St. George and Topeka. The town grew quickly due to its location and access to water resources. Taylorsville became a commercial center for the surrounding area and saw growth in both its population and economy until the early 1900s when agricultural production began to decline in Central Utah due to newly irrigated land being developed around Salt Lake City. By 1920, Taylorville had shrunk to 1,000 residents and was abandoned by the community's founders some years later during prohibition efforts in what is now Weber County. Today, Taylorville remains an important cultural landmark within its own borders as a tourist destination for those visiting Central Utah or Northern Arizona; however it has little remaining economic significance outside of these areas.

Taylorsville, Utah is a town in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. The name Taylorsville is derived from nearby Taylor Fork of the Clearfield River. The first settler in what is now Taylorsville was David Wigglesworth who arrived in 1847. By 1860, there were three families living in Taylorsville: the Potters and their children; the Smiths with six children; and John Hanks with two children. In 1861, James Ewing purchased 640 acres (240 ha) of land on the east side of Taylorsville Creek from David Wigglesworth for $1 per acre. He named it "Ewing's Prairie." In 1871, David Cates bought 640 acres (240 ha) of land to the south of Ewing's Prairie from James Ewing for $2 per acre. He named it "Cates' Valley." In 1876–77, Dallin Payson platted and sold 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of west-southwest corner of lot 675 (now block number 456), now part of block number 527 in Taylorville which he had purchased from Isaac Buttram five years earlier for $5 per acre ($100 total). This piece of property became known as Payson's Rancho after him. In 1880–81 Samuel Whitney acquired 640 acres (240 ha) east-northwest corner of lot 675 from Dallin Payson for $3 per acre ($40 total). Whitney renamed his property "Taylorsville". His wife Emily later married George Stephenson II and they founded Galt House National Historic Site near Taylorville on their estate which still stands today. "It should be noted that although many early settlers located around or within present-day Taylorsville," writes historian Douglas Neely "the township ultimately formed primarily due to efforts by several prominent men – chiefly James Moyle Sr., David Wigglesworth and Samuel Whitney – all working together." The townsite saw its heyday during the late 1800s when it grew rapidly thanks to irrigation systems brought about by Mormon pioneers seeking to extend irrigated agriculture into areas too rugged or far away for traditional methods such as dairying or livestock husbandry. Today’s growth can be traced back even further though: since 1907 when Sweetwater Well Field opened up just meters away from where today’s Main Street crosses Coyote Creek (and just across what is now Taylor Road), irrigation water has been available right down to our street washing out creekside!"
The Taylorsville area was started by the Mormons in 1847. The town was named after General James Tayler, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1872, the Mormon Church founded a seminary in Taylorsville, which became one of the leading seminaries in America.
