The company donated an acre (0.40 km2) of land near Main Street for this purpose which became known as their "Electric Avenue". Downtown redevelopment began soon afterward with businesses opening up along Electric Avenue such as banks, department stores, churches/synagogues, hospitals, schools and more! In 2007–2008 a major renovation project took place which renovated all 54 buildings within walking distance of either Main Street or Electric Avenue! This project included new parkland opened up next door to Lions Park across from Deseret News Building; new sidewalks were installed throughout town center; refurbished building facades were made available for retail use; programs were offered educating about local history & culture; and much more! Today's downtown area offers plenty of opportunities for shopping including numerous small businesses located around First Ward Square off Edison Alley between Second and Third Streets - one block south of State street - while other shops can be found near Seventh Street just east of Interstate 80 exit #124A (Enderby Place). There are several parks located throughout town center – especially First Ward Square – which provide public space for activities such as concerts & festivals (e.g., Christmas markets), plays & dances (e.g., Children's Festival), poetry readings (& book signings), health screenings (e.g., flu shots), art exhibitions (& car shows!), etc.; many different types of events are held annually between late fall until early spring depending on weather conditions!
