Saint George is one of the most famous and well-known saints in Utah. He is known for his miraculous cures and miracles, as well as for his defense of Christianity against heathenism. Saint George was born into a pagan family in Samaria, Palestine, on May 14th, 1503 AD. After converting to Christianity, he moved to Egypt with his family in 1507 AD to become a missionary under the leadership of Pope Julius II. Saint George fought against the Muslim Arabs in many battles during this time and is also said to have defeated 10 000 enemies. In 1516 AD, after five years of missionary work across many different countries, Saint George returned to India with a group of Christian missionaries. From here he continued helping spread the gospel throughout India and South Asia until his death on October 5th, 1582 AD at the age of 78 years old. After saint Georges death there was great celebrations all over India due to his miracles and impact on Indian culture. His remains were brought back to India and placed inside an old church near Dehradun in 1864 AD where they remain today (alongside other holy relics)
St. George was founded by the Nephites in 400 BC. The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1865, but was rebuilt and renamed St. George after its patron saint. The city is now a mixture of Mormon and Mormon-owned businesses and homes.
