During World War II, St.George played an important role as a military airfield serving both American and Japanese forces during World War II; it also saw some heavy use during later wars such as Operation Desert Storm which utilized many commercial airstrips around this time period but located mostly in California or Nevada across Highway 95 near Las Vegas Strip area between Reno NV and Springdale UT

In 1928, while renovation work was being done on the LDS temple in St. George, a fire destroyed most of the building including all of its contents except for some storage buildings used by the local chapter of Zion's Missionary Society. This event left much damage to both the town and temple complex, which has since been repaired and reopened as a museum.
