The townspeople built a dam upstream to provide water for their needs until they could find an existing well nearby. When the railroad arrived in 1883, job opportunities were available in building tracks across the valley so goods could be brought upriver into Utah Territory. A church was built soon afterwards and named after President George Washington Carver who had donated land for the school district that would later include Springville. The first university classes were held at BYU-Hawaii in 1907 and since then many famous people have come from or have been associated with this institution such as Neil Armstrong and Gordon Bierschler; both professors at BYU-Hawaii during their careers which spanned over fifty years! After the war ended, springville experienced rapid growth again thanks to its burgeoning tourist industry which continues today.
