Springville is a city in Iron County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The Academy of Fine Arts is located in Springville. The first permanent settler in what would become Springville was James Wetherbee, who arrived in 1847. He named his new land Springerville after his home state of Vermont. In 1855, Brigham Young surveyed and platified Iron County, making Springville its seat and providing for its growth as a farming community and cultural center. In 1905, the Utah State Legislature established Brigham Young University (BYU) on south central campus in Springville; it became one of Utah's nationally recognized universities. In 1928, BYU designated an armory on Main Street as "The Armoury Museum". The museum opened to the public on October 6th that year with exhibits on arms and armour from throughout history including items from King Solomon's Temple and Native American artifacts dating back to prehistoric times. Today the Armory Museum features more than 1 million items from across Utah and worldwide! Today also marks significant milestones for Springville- both statewide and locally: On November 3rd 2016 BYU announced they were moving all their operations out of Provo into new facilities adjacent to Mill Creek Park which will house almost all their research programs as well as classrooms and residential buildings currently under construction at 600 S 400 E called “The Mill Creek Campus”

Springville is a town in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Springville was founded in 1871 by John C. Fremont and his family. It became a city in 1971 and is the county seat of Salt Lake County. The first Europeans to visit Springville were Mormon pioneers who journeyed up the Wasatch Mountains in 1847–48. They explored what is now Springville and named it Provo because of the springs they saw there. A post office was established at Springville on February 12, 1868, and operated until November 1, 1870. In 1886 Brigham Young moved his executive council from Nauvoo to Winter Quarters near Cedar City for six months during the winter meetings of the LDS Church's First Presidency under advisement from Joseph Smith Jr., then located in Carthage, Illinois (now Springfield). When Smith returned to Nauvoo he organized a new executive council which met at Winter Quarters from January 8-13, 1886 under direction of Young himself as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). This council set about creating regulations for church governance including regulation of local elections and choosing a bishopric for each ward or branch district; organization of wards On July 15th 1890 Brigham Young visited Springville while on his way eastward across Iowa into Missouri Territory; he had been informed that Major James Wickersham had been appointed Territorial Governor over all the Mormons living eastward along the Great Western Road from Independence to St Louis Missouri Territory due to
Springville was founded in 1847 by the Mormon pioneers. The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1860 it had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1865, however, Springville had come to be known as one of the most important mining towns in Utah. It became an important center for coal and other minerals, and its industries helped contribute to the growth of Springville and adjacent communities. In 1912, Springville became the site of one of the largest earthquakes in Utah history. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake caused extensive damage to buildings and homes in the town, but it also created a number of memorable moments. For example, many local residents came out to watch as rubble from collapsed buildings pile up on the street outside their homes; later that year they erected a statue honoring those who had died in the quake. Throughout its history, Springville has been home to a number of prominent citizensincluding Governor George Romney (1948-1954), Senator Orrin Hatch (β 1974-1981), Mayor John Sorensen (1974-1983), and Dr. James Watt (1792-1866). In recent years, Springville has become known as a center for renewable energy production thanks to its location within close proximity to several major solar power plants
