South Ogden, Utah is a small town located in Ogden County, Utah. The population was 2,521 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Wasatch Range and straddles the border between Weber and Davis Counties. The first settlers in South Ogden were those who arrived in 1847 from Illinois. They were farmers and their families built log cabins near present day South Ogden Municipal Airport. From this location they could see what was happening on the other side of the mountains so they decided to stay put and help build up their community. In 1870, a post office was established in South Ogden and it remained until 1907. The first store opened in 1876 and named "Moses". In 1916, a new school was built which became known as "South Park School" after nearby Park City had its own school system that year. In 1925, when Salt Lake City took over responsibility for education within Utah, South Ogden became part of that city's school board. During World War II, many local residents volunteered to serve in military units or work with war production plants outside of town. Some residents also formed their own businesses during wartime: one man started his own farm while others created businesses manufacturing munitions or aluminum cans for military use. Businesses such as these helped support local families during difficult times and continue into the postwar years when demand for goods generated by war production shifted away from home nations to domestic markets around the world (a phenomena sometimes referred to as "the Gilded Age"). In recent years there has been an increase in development along Highway 89 which runs through town; this growth has led to increased traffic congestion on North Main Street which leads to some inconvenience for residents trying to shop at locally owned businesses such as hardware stores or restaurants close by; however, these closures are rare because most people who start businesses choose not to grow too large too quickly given that profits can easily be redirected back into village coffers through property taxes or other means rather than handed over directly to customers/Residents
