South Ogden, Utah is a city in Ogden County, Utah, United States. The population was 25,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. South Ogden has been home to many Brigham Young University students since its incorporation as a town in 1882. It also became known for being the home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and other religious institutions. The first resident of what is now South Ogden were two families who moved from Centerville, Illinois in 1869 and 1870. They named their land after General George A. Smith (1784-1863), president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). When it was platted as a town on December 12, 1882 by John Dillingham and others, it had a population of just over 20 people. In 1907, South Ogden approved an ordinance that established school district No. 1 within the city limits which would provide education for all children up to age 16 regardless of race or income levels; this provided instruction for African Americans as well as whites living within sight or sound distance of public schools. In 1916 the newly formed LDS Church organized a new Primary School District #1 with five elementary schools plus one high school in South Ogdens west side called "The President's School." This allowed white children living east and north of main street between Second and Third Streets to attend services at LDS Primary Schools while African American children attended "The President's School" which doubled as their homeschooling program until 1955 when they were integrated into the public school system through Deseret Educational Services District #2 operated by Public Education Administration within ward boundaries thereby ending racial segregation among LDS Elementary Schools throughout Utah under Unified School District ownership today! South Ogden, Utah is a town in Iron County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It has been home to the South Ogden mission district since 1875 and was named for John Ogden. The first people to live in what is now South Ogden were Paiute and Ute. James Sheard built the first permanent settler's cabin on the banks of the Weber River in 1794. In 1827, Brigham Young founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at South Salt Lake City and set out from there looking for a new location for their church. They found an area that would be perfect for their needs, called "The Hill Country". After they had established themselves there, they started building homes and stations around what is now South Ogden. In 1875, John Folsom moved his family to South Ogden from Cedar City after being appointed as the leader of LDS Battalion 10th Regiment during The Great Western War (1865-1868). He donated land to build a mission station near present day North Temple Square in memory of his wife Rosetta Folsom (née Romney). In 1886 Mormon pioneers arrived at Springdale and began construction on Springdale Mission Station which became operational on July 15th that year. On November 15th 1890 settlers arrived at Springdale with 10 men led by Elder Orson Pratt who organized a meeting to start confirmation classes for new missionaries that evening. This event marked one of many breakthroughs leading up to World War I when over 60% of all LDS members were fighting in Europe. On October 14th 1915 south side lot number 5/16 allotment sale held by J H Doleman resulted in purchase by A W Lumber Company Ltd including homesteading rights south side lot number 5/24 which became known as Dole Mansion later renamed Aspen Manor by Mrs Dora Hills late owner Mr C M Doleman who resided here until her death on December 6th 1976 aged 93 years also Wife Of A W Lumber Company Ltd South OgDEN feels like it always has been right here!
